NEVER GIVE UP

THE LORD’S COUNSEL -- IT WILL STAND (2)

“Mortals make elaborate plans, but God has the last word. Humans are satisfied with whatever looks good; God probes for what is good. Put God in charge of your work, then what you’ve planned will take place. God made everything with a place and purpose; even the wicked are included, but for judgment. God can’t stomach arrogance or pretense; believe me, He’ll put those braggarts in their place. Seek God while He’s here to be found, and pray to Him while He’s close at hand. Let the wicked abandon their way of life and the evil their way of thinking. Let them come back to God, who is merciful, come back to our God, who is lavish with forgiveness. I don’t think the way you think. The way you work isn’t the way I work declares the Lord.” Proverbs 16:1-5, Isaiah 55:7-8

God destines all the ways of a man; He knows the beginning of all things, and He alone declares the end even before it begins. Nothing is hidden from His eyes, and nothing is successful without His approval. Commit your way to Him; trust in Him, He will do it, and you will live to see it. He acts in His own way, He will respond with power, He will stand on His words alone, and not on the word of men, and He will always follow His plans and principles with compassion, grace, justice, and mercy. When He forgives, He turns things around for good, regardless of what people may say or do, and regardless of their previous state. He is always merciful and loving, His grace gives us the strength to rebuild ourselves, correct our broken ways, and become strong, useful, and successful again.

David was scheduled by the knowledge, wisdom, and counsel of his parents to be and remain a sheep keeper for life, but God’s counsel turned David around and prevailed against the counsel of his parents. “He chose David his servant and took him from the sheep pens; from tending the sheep he brought him to be the shepherd of his people, Jacob, of Israel His inheritance. And David shepherded them with the integrity of heart; with skillful hands, he led them.” Psalm 78:70-72. David was scheduled to be killed by Saul, but God’s counsel for him prevailed against the plans of King Saul, even with all his armies and war supplies. I waited patiently for the Lord. He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in Him. Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods. Many, Lord my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare.” Psalm 40:1-5

David was scheduled to be killed by Goliath who was better armed, better trained, with high hopes and personal assurance and evidence of previous victories in warfare, but despite all that Goliath was and did, despite his expectations, that of King Saul, and all the armies of Israel, God’s counsel for David prevailed. Goliath and David declared. – “He said to David, am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. Come here, he said, and I’ll give your flesh to the birds and the wild animals. David said to the Philistine, you come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day, the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day, I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give all of you into our hands.” 1 Samuel 17:43-47.
