AARON, WHEN PRESSURED, WHAT TO DO. (05)

By His mighty power, God enabled the children of Israel to leave Egypt; He gave them victory over Pharaoh and his choice armies and weapons of war at the Red Sea; He divided the Red Sea by His power and enabled all of the children of Israel to cross on dry ground without being hindered by the mud. He took them to the wilderness and there He called Moses to the mountain top to give him instructions and directives concerning their future. When Moses left according to God’s call to the mountain, the mantle to keep the children of Israel safe, to keep them together, to keep them in faith and in hope, and to maintain their relationship with Him and readiness to receive the instruction. Under this new responsibility, Aaron had to confront the people daily with God’s instructions given to him by Moses before he left, but now he had to face the pressure of leadership, the pressure to obey the instructions given by Moses, the pressure of people to be what they want irrespective of what Moses had said to him and to them, and irrespective of the word of God to them earlier and the power of God that they had witnessed.

Pressure can make you do what you do not like or want to do, it can make you act foolishly and cowardly or bravely; it can make you commit yourself in an irreparable way with irreparable consequences and shame, it can make you offend God and offend people, it can make you become disobedient to God’s words and counsel, and it make you to be rejected by God in areas that He had accepted you before. Pressure had separated many marriages, separated many good relationships, destroyed many marriages, many children, many homes, may families, create habits that are offensive to God, to His words, and to our health. Pressure had made many pastors to go astray and remain rejected by God.

“Now when the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, they gathered together before Aaron and said to him, Come, make us a god who will go before us; as for this Moses, the man who brought us up from the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him. So Aaron replied to them, take off the gold rings that are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and daughters, and bring them to me. So all the people took off the gold rings that were in their ears and brought them to Aaron. And he took the gold from their hands, and fashioned it with an engraving tool and made it into a molten calf; and they said, this is your god, O Israel, who brought you up from the land of Egypt. Now when Aaron saw the molten calf, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made a proclamation, and said, tomorrow shall be a feast to the Lord. So they got up early the next day and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; then the people sat down to eat and drink and got up to play shamefully without moral restraint. Then the Lord said to Moses, go down at once, for your people, whom you brought up from the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves. They have quickly turned aside from the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a molten calf, and have worshiped and sacrificed to it, and said, this is your god, O Israel, who brought you up from the land of Egypt. The Lord said to Moses, I have seen this people, and behold, they are stubborn, rebellious people. Now, therefore, let Me alone and do not interfere, so that My anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them, and I will make of you, your descendants a great nation.” Exodus 32:1-10

Aaron did not just wake up to make the calf, he did not intentionally do it, but he was pressured as a leader without direction, he was pressured by the rebellion people and he agreed to their pressure forgetting the words of God and the instructions given to him by Moses God had given you salvation, taken you out from sin and is taking you to a defined place of His destiny and promise for your life. Do not become a victim of that pressure targeting your future and demanding you disobey God’s instructions and words, demanding you to something that is against God and against what you know as wrong.
