HOW SOLOMON STRAYED --- YOU SHOULD NOT

This is what Solomon did: - “King Solomon married many other girls besides the Egyptian princess. Many of them came from nations where idols were worshiped. Moab, Ammon, Edom, Sidon, and from the Hittites—even though the Lord had clearly instructed his people not to marry into those nations because the women they married would get them started worshiping their gods. Yet Solomon did it anyway. He had seven hundred wives and three hundred concubines; and sure enough, they turned his heart away from the Lord, especially in his old age. They encouraged him to worship their gods instead of trusting completely in the Lord as his father David had done. Solomon worshiped Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Sidonians, and Milcom, the horrible god of the Ammonites. Thus Solomon did what was clearly wrong and refused to follow the Lord as his father David did. He even built a temple on the Mount of Olives, across the valley from Jerusalem for Chemosh, the depraved god of Moab, and another for Molech, the unutterably vile god of the Ammonites. Solomon built temples for these foreign wives to use for burning incense and sacrificing to their gods.” 1 King 11:1-8.

At the end of his life, after beginning well in wisdom and doing well through wisdom, Solomon pursued personal desires and departed from the instructions of God in Deuteronomy and ended his life in a sad way by marrying seven hundred wives and three hundred concubines. These wives eventually encouraged him in their own ways, thoughts, and desires, and Solomon did all that they asked him to do. After receiving wisdom from the Lord, Solomon built a temple for the Lord in Jerusalem and built other temples for the gods for each of his other wives. What is it that is encouraging you to turn your heart away from following the Lord? What is it that is making you not to continue in obedience to His words? Irrespective of the situations and all the forces against you, do not ignore the instructions of God. Ignoring any of them will affect your heart, your thoughts, and your actions and you will definitely pay a regrettable price for your action which you never expected. Do not abandon God’s commandments; it is the surest source of your life and success. David, Solomon’s father said; “Your words are a flashlight to light the path ahead of me and keep me from stumbling. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again and again; I will obey these wonderful laws of yours. I am close to death at the hands of my enemies; oh give me back my life again, just as you promised me. Accept my grateful thanks and teach me your desires. My life hangs in the balance, but I will not give up obedience to your laws. The wicked have set their traps for me along your path, but I will not turn aside. Your laws are my joyous treasure forever. I am determined to obey you until I die.” Psalm 119:105-111

Do not allow the pressure of success, wealth, lack, failure, humiliation, loneliness, or shame to turn your heart from God, obeying Him by keeping His instructions, and worshiping Him. God will always expect your true worship and obedience. He can defend you, he can sustain you, and He can defeat your enemies. Solomon spent the rest of his life gathering wisdom and wine, whores and wives, vanities upon vanities with lots of regrets.

God has given you salvation, what have done with it? God has given you this day, what have you done with it? God has given you a job and a pay, a business with profits what have done with them? God has given you children and a home what are doing with them? God has given you a spouse and a family, what are doing with them? What you do with what God had given to you matters to Him. Do you use what He had given to you to glorify Him or yourself? Do you worship Him with all that He had given you or you just feel good with yourself and leave Him behind? Do worship God with obedience and with all you have. Solomon worshipped God but he was not willing to remain in obedience to His words and to follow His precepts which are the foundation of His sustainability and continuous goodness in your life.
