ABRAHAM KNEW ABOUT SODOM AND GOMORRAH

You know all the problems in the church; you know all the problems with pastors; you know all the problems of your spouse; you know the problems of your children; you know the problems in your family; you know the problems in your office, you know the problems in your profession; you know the problems in your neighborhood; you know the problems in your nation, and you know all the problems of the world, but despite all that you know, there is absolutely nothing you can do to solve any; your previous efforts did not yield any positive result and you are getting angry, frustrated and worried about what will happen next. The most frustrating aspect of knowledge is when one still remains helpless with that knowledge and cannot do anything with what it. That was the situation with Abraham. Long before he had the encounter with the angels of God, he knew much about Sodom and Gomorrah, but he was unable to do anything with what he knew to save the situation or help his uncle Lot and his family.

Abraham knew Sodom and Gomorrah existed and were sinful cities; he knew the type of sins they were committing daily: He knew they were doing what was wrong before God and enjoying doing so; He knew their actions were unrighteous and unholy; he knew his uncle Lot and his family were living there; he knew they could still be some righteous people in the city with his uncle despite the news of unrighteous actions; he knew God to be merciful to the righteous; he knew there were nothing physical he could do to save the city or take his uncle out; and he knew he had opportunity to speak with the angels concerning the city and he did use that opportunity, not condemning but pleading for the people knowing his uncle could still be spared and he was spare. He knew God will definitely deliver the righteous irrespective of the news, the crime and the doom waiting to happen in the city. I want you to know that God can still deliver that child, that spouse, that marriage, that family and that Nation despite our inability to offer a practical solution to what you know when we keep our trust, our hope and our believes in Him.

“And the Lord said, the outcry of the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah is indeed great, and their sin is exceedingly grave. I will go down now, and see whether they have acted as vilely and wickedly as the outcry which has come to Me indicates; and if not, I will know. Now the two men, angelic beings turned away from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the Lord. Abraham approached the Lord and said, will You really sweep away the righteous, those who do right with the wicked, those who do evil? Suppose there are fifty righteous people within the city; will You really sweep it away and not spare it for the sake of the fifty righteous who are in it? Far be it from You to do such a thing, to strike the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous and the wicked are treated alike. Far be it from You, shall not the Judge of all the earth do right by executing just and righteous judgment? So the Lord said, if I find within the city of Sodom fifty righteous people, then I will spare the entire place for their sake. Abraham answered, now behold, I who am but dust in origin and ashes have decided to speak to the Lord. If five of the fifty righteous are lacking, will You destroy the entire city for lack of five? And He said, if I find at least forty-five righteous people there, I will not destroy it. Abraham spoke to Him yet again and said, suppose only forty are found there. And He said I will not do it for the sake of the forty who are righteous. Then Abraham said to Him, oh, may the Lord not be angry, and I will speak; suppose thirty righteous people are found there? And He said I will not do it if I find thirty there. And he said, now behold, I have decided to speak to the Lord again. Suppose only twenty righteous people are found there? And the Lord said I will not destroy it for the sake of the twenty. Then Abraham said, oh may the Lord not be angry with me, and I will speak only this once; suppose ten righteous people are found there? And He said I will not destroy it for the sake of the ten. As soon as He had finished speaking with Abraham the Lord departed, and Abraham returned to his own place.” Genesis 18:20-33. For prayers Click here
