AND SAMUEL DID NOT KNOW

Which voice are you waiting for to hear announcing the recognition of your faithful services to God and to man in the whole world; which voice are you waiting to hear pronouncing your next level of elevation to a position you never expected even in your best dreams;  to a level of great authority in your present location after many years of faultless service; pronounce your freedom after many years of suffering in severe spiritual and physical bondage; announce your wealth after many years of diligent investment in money, knowledge and wisdom; announce your  new employment after many years of quality education, self-training and self-development; to announce your healing after many years of illness and costly treatment; announce your marriage date after many years of waiting on the Lord; announce your ability to have children after many years of marriage; announce your peace after many years of divers kinds of quarrels; or announce your of victory after many years of battles with people and evil spirits?

It was not the voice of Eli; never the intent of Eli; his election; and never his recognition that confirmed Samuel as the next high priest in Israel. It was absolutely the voice of the Lord God Almighty on that blessed night in the temple where Samuel was sleeping that announced his next reward of faithfulness and dedication to service. Besides, Eli would never have done the announcement because it would have been a violation of the law of appointing priest at that time, and it would have been a disservice to his own immediate family.

You may be thinking God is not watching over the place you are right now because of some difficulties; that He is not watching over what you are doing because consistent abuse, failure and lack of breakthrough; you may be thinking God is too silent to your wishes, prayers, desires fasting, and offerings of love, but despite your thinking, God is actively watching you as He did with Samuel while he was serving in the temple with Eli as the high priest and his children as his assistance and next in line to the post.

Before the emergence of Samuel in the house of Eli and in the temple of God in Israel, God had pronounced the next high priest after Eli will come from his family. But the character and greed of Eli’s children, their none compliance with the words of God and the laws of the temple, their ‘I don’t care’ attitude towards the laid down procedure in handling the offerings of the people in the temple, and their desire for self-satisfaction instead of Godly-satisfaction made God to begin looking beyond Eli’s family for the next high priest.

While Samuel was busy serving Eli and his family in the temple faithfully, little did he know that God was keenly observing everything he was doing: little did he know that God was watching his level of faithfulness to Eli, his level of commitment to service, his level of sincerity and truthfulness to Eli and to Him; he did not know that God was observing his level adherence to the ethics of priesthood and his none compromising attitude towards the laws concerning the offerings, the people of God and the temple. God was observing everything about him.

Samuel never knew something exceptionally good was about to happen to Him; he never knew God was about to make an announcement concerning his future; he never knew God had given approval for him to replace Eli instead of his children; he never knew God will take him from where he was to a place he had never thought will ever happen; and he never knew something extraordinary, something that will change history and immortalize his name in Israel was about to take place. His faithful was never in vein, God Himself announced Samuel as the next High priest and Eli and all his children could not resist that announcement.

Just as Samuel never knew and you never know, God is about to announce you. “And the Lord said to Samuel: See, I am about to do something in Israel that will make the ears of everyone who hears about it tingle.” 1 Samuel 3:11. For prayers, Click here
