LIFT UP YOUR EYES

“Wilt thou be made whole?” John 5:6. That is a terrible question in a desperate situation, but that was the question Christ Jesus asked a man who was sick and invalid for thirty eight years.

That man heard the news of the miracles in the pool, went there, saw many healed and expected to be healed also, but he had to wait until Christ Jesus visited which took thirty eight years. The problem with this man was not lack of faith, patience or expectation, but reliance on men when all his personal efforts were exhausted without his expectations being fulfilled. Despite the many years of endless wait and continuous disappointments, this man still kept his expectation alive, resolved not to go home and to be patient. And on a faithful day when Christ Jesus walked into the place, He took note of the man. At the appropriate moment, when men had deserted him, he lifted up his eyes and saw Christ Jesus by his side and his thirty eight years expectation was fulfilled without having to wait for the moving of the water. Many people where there but only this one man got his healing. You will not miss your time of divine visitation.

Three things this man did, (1) he was disappointed by men but not discouraged within himself despite the number of years, (2) he patiently kept his expectations alive despite the dwindling hope, and (3) he never left the scene of his expectation.

The devil can succeed in bring someone down, but cannot succeed in keeping anyone down forever. Don’t give in to the forces that seek to keep you back, down and discouraged. Don’t give in to the thoughts and powers that are not of God. Failure is not your final destination.

Lift up your eyes to the one who can change all situations, who can lift you up, who is impartial in dispensing justice and mercy. The devil might have taken you to where you are right now, but he has no power to keep you there forever. Change is all that Christ Jesus has for you today.

Do not allow adverse situations to take away your expectations in life and in Christ Jesus.  When Abraham was discouraged, God asked him to lift up his eyes. Genesis 13:14.  When Christ Jesus was to feed the multitude with just a few loaves of bread, he lifted them up.  When Christ was at the tomb of Lazarus He lifted up His eyes to heaven.  When Elijah expected rain after a period of three years, he prayed and lifted up his eyes to look.  When you face challenges in your life and career, lift up your eyes to God.

Many people today for no fault of their own have been unable to lift up their eyes by reason of what is going on in their lives. This is quite certain, the Lord that made all things is never confused and discouraged in what to do in your situation.

Despite the things you are presently contending with, despite the daily afflictions and struggles, the good news is that, there is no sin Christ Jesus will not forgive. There are no needs He cannot meet. There are no good things He cannot restore, sustain and protect. In your best moment and in your down moment, lift up your eyes.

David did not wait to be told, he said in Psalms 121, “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.  He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. -- The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. -- The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. -- The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore”

Lift up your eyes because there are amazing things in Christ Jesus just for you.
