Jabez was destined by the devil to continue in the afflictions of his parents, his elder siblings, and his other family members but God had destined him differently. With God, he was destined to be the agent of change the family needed and had been waiting for in their life history. Jabez was destined by God to change history; to change the evil narrative in his life and his family and he was wise enough not to follow the past in his family and not to be bogged down by the physical handicap he was experiencing, thank God he did think differently for himself according to God’s plans. When you deliberately decide to change your mind and take on something different and acceptable before God; when you refuse to follow your family’s narrative of setbacks and evil norms; when you allow the word of God to dwell in you; to change the way you think and act in all things, then you will definitely discover the will of God for your life and you will definitely begin speaking and acting positively in that realm.

Jabez change began from his mind and continued to His actions; it did not begin the day he was born; in fact, his parents hated him the moment they saw him after birth, but when he grew up, he refused to hate himself; he refused to follow the mistakes of his parent and his elder siblings; he refused to remain the same in his own eyes and in his thoughts; he refused to remain the same in the eyes and thoughts of his parents and family members who knew and saw him at birth; he refused to accept their words of comfort and their understanding of events before his birth; he refused to follow their examples in hate and self-rejection and undesired mistakes; he refused to trust and to follow their god and refused to be a victim of the prevailing circumstance. Jabez decision was not to change the name he was given but to change his situation for the best that none of his family had ever seen or experienced. The desire in his heart was to begin something new in his family and he did by engaging the Almighty God in prayers demanding what others could not even dream will ever happen to them or in the family.

Jabez was born in the situation, he grew up to know and experience the situation, but he refused to live and to continue in that same situation. If Jabez did not change his mind and actions in what he knew and saw in his life, he would have continued in the family’s mistake and live the rest of his life in anger, rejection, sorrows, regrets and unwanted pains. What mistake do you know or think your parents had made which is staring at you right now or affecting any member of your family? What illness, pains, unfortunate issues, and experiences do you seen in the lives of your parents, siblings or family members seeking to repeat itself in your life also? Seek to handle the problem differently and you will have a different result and will definitely avoid the mistakes your parents made; seek to handle your struggles with God’s help through prayer and compliance to His words and you will not repeat the same mistake they made; seek to handle them differently with the wisdom and guidance of God and you will change the family history of undesirable experiences and mistakes and afflictions.

God is calling you to make a difference in your current situation and you can; He is standing by to offer help; He will answer you; He will perfect His will in your life as He did with Jabez and his parents and their mistakes; He will not allow you to make the same mistake as your parents in their time, and as He did with Jabez, He is doing with you. This requires a change in the way you think and a consistent action; this is what God requires: “Place for yourself road signs, make for yourself guideposts; turn your thought and attention to the highway, to the way by which you went. Retrace your steps, O virgin of Israel; return to these your cities. Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, saying, Oh that You would indeed bless me and enlarge my border, and that Your hand would be with me, and You would keep me from evil so that it does not hurt me. And God granted his request.” Jeremiah 31:21; 1 Chronicles 4:10. For Prayers Click here
