“Now in Haran the Lord had said to Abram, go away from your country, and from your relatives, and from your father’s house, to the land which I will show you; and I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you abundantly, and make your name great, exalted, distinguished, and you shall be a blessing, a source of great good to others; and I will bless, do good for, benefit, those who bless you, and I will curse, that is, subject to My wrath and judgment to the one who curses, despises, dishonors, has contempt for you. And in you all the families, nations of the earth will be blessed. So Abram departed in faithful obedience as the Lord had directed him, and Lot his nephew left with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran. Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his nephew, and all their possessions which they had acquired, and the people, servants which they had acquired in Haran, and they set out to go to the land of Canaan. When they came to the land of Canaan, Abram passed through the land as far as the site of Shechem, to the great terebinth oak tree of Moreh. Now the Canaanites were in the land at that time. Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, I will give this land to your descendants. So Abram built an altar there to honor the Lord who had appeared to him. Then he moved on from there to the mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; and there he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord in worship through prayer, praise, and thanksgiving. Then Abram journeyed on, continuing toward the Negev, the South country of Judah.” Genesis 12:1-11

Abraham woke one morning to hear something new from God, something he never expected or ever imagined; something he never thought will happen to him, something he never heard or seen happening to someone around before and something he could not resist to accept as true even in the time and place he lived. He heard something he wanted, a promise he desired and a word that will give him the life he will be proud of and which he strongly wanted for himself and for his family. This happened to Abraham at a time when everyone was looking for how to become great, how to conquer, how to be at the top and looking for ways to get to the top. Before this day, Abraham had heard from others about God but never had any experience of Him before now; Abraham knew God exists and that He speaks; he knew God had spoken to others, he knew God spoke to Noah but never heard God speaking and never expected one but he knows God can also speak to him. Unknown to Abraham, God was interested in his wellbeing, in his success, in his becoming wealthy and in his having a relationship with Him.

On the day that God spoke to Abraham and when he heard God’s word and His voice, Abraham had no doubt in his mind, he knew clearly that he had heard God’s voice, he knew clearly that it was real, he knew clearly that it was possible, and Abraham knew that something new was about to happen in his life and in his generation. God promised Abraham much more than he could work for, much more than he could dream, and much more than could ever inherit from his ancestors and from his people. Where God is taking you to is far bigger and better despite the troubles of today; where God is about to place you will be something you will be glad about and something you will be proud about; what God is about to do for you will be better, will be lasting and will give you joy beyond what you have right now. The troubles of this day, of this season, and of the years present and past will not be compared in any way with the joy that will follow you, the joy and peace that will dwell in your heart and the new experience that you will have. God spoke to Abraham where he was and instructed him concerning new things in his future if he will obey and follow those instructions. You have been saved, you have believed God through Christ Jesus, you have trusted God, you have waited on God, you are expecting His goodness and His blessings and you will not be disappointed.
