What you see, what you know, and what you hear has the power to change you, to influence your decisions and also influence your actions. But in all things, irrespective of what you see, hear and know about any situation, the Almighty God wants you to have a firm confidence in Him, have a firm trust in His power to completely deliver, and unwavering hold on His promises even when the enemies are showing no sign of backing down or turning back and are issuing new threats to you every day. What you see, know, and heard can encourage you to go forward o your dreams and desires or discourage you from doing anything meaningful or productive. This was God’s interaction with Jeremiah after he was searching for meaning for his life: “The Lord gave me this message: I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations. O Sovereign Lord, I said, I can’t speak for you, I’m too young. The Lord replied, don’t say, I’m too young, for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you. And don’t be afraid of the people, for I will be with you and will protect you. I, the Lord, have spoken. Then the Lord reached out and touched my mouth and said, look, I have put my words in your mouth today, I appoint you to stand up against nations and kingdoms. Some you must uproot and tear down, destroy and overthrow. Others you must build up and plant. Then the Lord said to me, look, Jeremiah, what do you see? And I replied I see a branch from an almond tree. And the Lord said that’s right, and it means that I am watching, and I will certainly carry out all my plans. Then the Lord spoke to me again and asked, what do you see now? And I replied I see a pot of boiling water, spilling from the north.” Jeremiah 1:4-14. The first thing God asked Jeremiah after he accepted the words and directions of God for his life was what do you see?

Some days after the miraculous movement of the children of Israel out of Egypt following Moses according to the plans and desires of God, they saw the Red Sea in front blocking their forward movement and saw the armed soldiers of Pharaoh behind pursuing to take them back to slavery and they cried in fear. “As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up and saw the Egyptians marching after them, and they were very frightened; so the Israelites cried out to the Lord. Then they said to Moses, is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What is this that you have done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? Did we not say to you in Egypt, leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians as slaves than to die in the wilderness. Then Moses said to the people, do not be afraid, take your stand, be firm and confident and undismayed and see the salvation of the Lord which He will accomplish for you today; for those Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you while you only need to keep silent and remain calm. The Lord said to Moses, why do you cry to Me? Tell the sons of Israel to move forward toward the sea.” Exodus 14:10-15

What the children of Israel saw that day and moment was their complete destruction beyond just being taken back as slaves by the soldiers of Pharaoh from Egypt with their weapons and horses and chariots. They saw Pharaoh’s determination, they saw his readiness and they saw his ability in his army to do what they want and to be successful. They saw themselves without arms; they saw Moses as helpless and incapable, they saw themselves without help and without hope and without any chance of surviving. What they never saw was God being with them even in their most fearful time. What they saw generated deep fear and discouragement. But despite what you are seeing and hearing, keep your peace, trust in God, and never depart from His words and hold on the more on His promises. He is God and there is no match to what He will do.
