“Then she made a vow and said, O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head. And it happened, as she continued praying before the Lord,” 1 Samuel 1:8-16. Let us pray Hannah’s prayers today; let us have Hannah’s determination today; let us see God as He is today – The Almighty and maker of all possibilities; let us open our hearts, spirit, mouth and all our being to God; let us pour out our feelings, our pains and our grieves to Him; let us be sincere and determined, and let us be consistent, the God who answered Hannah, He will answer us, the God who blessed Hannah thereafter, He will bless us; the God who restored the body of Hannah and her confidence will answer us, the God who did not allow Hannah’s hope to result in shame will answer us. He is the Almighty, the maker of all things.

Hannah did not start her prayers with a vow, but with a request before God for a male child and she thereafter made a vow of what she will do with the child that God will give to her. The vow was nothing but to show to God she will keep her own promise, it was to show God her heart and her determination. It expresses her personality and her willingness to honor God and see to the house of God and her respect for the priesthood. She did not request that her son be made a priest, but that she will give him over to be in the house of Lord permanently and whatever God or the priest will want him to do he will do. And thank God, Hannah’s child became a priest by God’s choice and anointing by His grace, and Samuel was a great success.

God will always take us beyond our imaginations and dreams if we will be sincere and true with our words to Him and our ways before Him, He will not fail us if our hearts are fixed on meeting His needs even in our troubles and shame, and if we will be determined to follow every step that will lead to His name being glorified on earth irrespective of the prevailing situation. Remember He is always compassionate, always merciful, always faithful, always caring and always desiring that we will remain in Him and in His blessings forever.

O Lord of hosts - she began with recognizing the God she knew and was praying to, she also recognized Him as the Lord over everything in heaven and on earth, She cries out to the one who is able to create all things from nothing, she cried out to the One whom every cell and atom calls and pays attention to. She knows that her hope lies only with the one whose voice the whole host of heavens and earth must obey. She understood that the commands of the Lord of Hosts will, and must be fully executed irrespective of the situation. And it was so. Whatever God, the Lord of hosts commands in your case and in your favor will and must be done.

Look on the affliction of Your maidservant --- she recognized herself as a God’s servant, God’s instrument, and God’s image even though she was not working in the temple or house of God. We are all instruments of God for a purpose, we are His image and likeness and we are His servants ready for His services. She knew that her afflictions were trying to destroy God’s image, God’s purpose and God’s will and she asked God to look on her. What a way to express oneself before God. She continued --- Remember me, even though God knows all of our afflictions, see all of them, and knows how much we suffer because of them, He still wants us to call on Him and to express them before Him in prayers. Do not forget Your maidservant, -- she understood that when God remembers you, good things will happen, all closed doors will open, and all open doors of good things will remain open, and God did remember Hannah and change her life, He will remember you. It was after all these that she made her request - Give Your maidservant a male child. She was specific and straight to her desire and God in His love and kindness did not turn down her request.
