LORD SHOULD I PRESS ON OR QUIT?

“Then the angel who had been talking with me returned and woke me, as though I had been asleep, what do you see now? He asked. I answered; I see a solid gold lampstand with a bowl of oil on top of it. Around the bowl are seven lamps, each having seven spouts with wicks. And I see two olive trees, one on each side of the bowl. Then I asked the angel, what are these, my lord? What do they mean? Don’t you know? The angel asked. No, my lord, I replied. Then he said to me, this is what the Lord says to Zerubbabel: It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. Nothing, not even a mighty mountain, will stand in Zerubbabel’s way; it will become a level plain before him. And when Zerubbabel sets the final stone of the Temple in place, the people will shout: May God bless it. May God bless it. Then another message came to me from the Lord: Zerubbabel is the one who laid the foundation of this Temple, and he will complete it. Then you will know that the Lord of Heaven’s Armies has sent me. Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand. The seven lamps represent the eyes of the Lord that search all around the world.” Zechariah 4:1-10

Zerubbabel wanted to quit because of the mountains and his inability to get through the forces that were stronger than him and trying to stop him after laying the foundation of the project God had enabled him to, but God sent His angels to tell him that he should not quit; that he will see the work completed; he will have the victory through the power of the spirit of the Almighty God who had called him. You may be like Zerubbabel today facing numerous mountains and fears and delays, frustrations and humiliations, but as God assured and enable Zerubbabel beyond his strength and knowledge, so is He doing for you now and you will see all the mountains standing before you standing behind you very soon.

Paul said he will press on despite the odds; despite the challenges; despite his health, despite the array of oppositions; despite the numbers and strength of his foes. Pressing on is God’s desires for you and it is the only reason you will become a success and have the victory as He had said before giving you the grace. Note that the devil is never giving up and you should not try to give up also. Your enemies are not quitting the battle, but despite their resolve to stay on, God will give you the victory. God did not save you so that you can quit but so that you will win; He did not call you into that relationship so that you will remain a victim but so that you will have the victory and glorify His name in it; He did not allow you to take on that project so that you will abandon it half way but so that you will finish it in His time and praise His name.

You may be thinking of quitting from the race for the actualization of your dreams and all of your desires in life after waiting, praying, fasting and working all these years without seeing any of the positive results you expected; you may be thinking of quitting from the path of faith in Christ Jesus and in keeping His words; you may be thinking of indulging in a little sin so the doors will be open; you may be thinking to stop being and remaining faithful and holy to God because you have not seen any reward or relief from all of your previous faithfulness and holiness; you may be thinking of stepping aside and allowing a little evil to have its way; but despite all of your thoughts and imaginations, quitting is definitely not the solution to all the things you have been dreaming and desiring in life.

When all the children of Israel and Moses were thinking of quitting their desires for the Promised Land because of the fears behind and before them, God told them in a plain language: “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.” Exodus 14:13-14.
