“Then the Lord awoke as from sleep, as a warrior wakes from the stupor of wine. He beat back His enemies; He put them to everlasting shame. Then He rejected the tents of Joseph, He did not choose the tribe of Ephraim; but He chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion, which He loved. He built His sanctuary like the heights, like the earth that He established forever. He chose David His servant and took him from the sheep pens; from tending the sheep He brought him to be the shepherd of His people Jacob, of Israel His inheritance. And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands, He led them.” Psalms 78:65-72

When Israel disobeyed the words and instructions of God given to them through Moses, God was angry with them but He did not reject them; He was angry but He did not abandon them in the hands of the enemies forever, He was angry with them but He did not close His eyes to their plights, to their humiliations and shame, and He did not close His ears to their cries. He was still holding them in His covenant with Abraham, He was still faithful to His words and promises, He was still showing them love and kindness, and He was still committed to being their God. We may have disobeyed, or fail God sometimes or somewhere, but it is very certain that through repentance and a commitment to follow Christ Jesus, we will again enjoy His love, His faithfulness, receive His goodness and enjoy His mercies.

Despite being afflicted by the enemies, God showed up with strength when it was time to redeem and deliver them from the enemies. He took on a battle against the enemies, those oppressed and those who humiliated and mistreated the Israelites, He brought the enemies to shame, He took down the arms of affliction, built and restored His sanctuary to His delight, restored their land and chose David as their leader. In all situations, and in all locations, God’s plans are far above all of our previous and present pains, is above all the insults we will or we have ever received, all the rejections we suffer, all the loneliness and all the shame. When He starts, things will fall in place, things will be better, things will take shape, and He will take us to the place He had prepared and also promised.

God did not take David from the best of places, David was in a bad shape physically when God took up, a place that was contrary to God’s destiny for him, a place that limited his dreams and desires, a place that limited his imaginations and visions, but when God took him up, He took him the best place in his life, He took him to a place He had prepared and He ensured he had success. That is what God will do for you also. He will give you a change and a blessing, He will ensure you are stabilized and blessed, He will ensure you are on a solid foundation, and He will also defend you against the enemies and bless you with His goodness while you enjoy the outpouring of His love, faithfulness, and mercies.

This is the testimony of David after God took him up from where he was abandoned by his parents. “I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in Him. Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods. Many, Lord my God are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare. Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but my ears you have opened, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require. Then I said, here I am, I have come, it is written about me in the scroll. I desire to do your will, my God; your law is within my heart. I proclaim your saving acts in the great assembly; I do not seal my lips, Lord, as you know.” Psalms 40:1-9. For prayers, Click here
