What you have heard from the word of God will come to pass; what you have expected based on those words you heard from the Lord and the testimonies of others will come to pass; God, by the power of His salvation working in you will do it. He will not fail and He will not forsake or abandon your case before Him. “Later, after these things, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for a special feast of the Jews. In Jerusalem, there is a pool with five covered porches, which is called Bethesda, a pool of water north of the temple thought to have curative powers in the Hebrew language. This pool is near the Sheep Gate. Many sick people were lying on the porches beside the pool. Some were blind, some were crippled, and some were paralyzed and they waited for the water to move. At a certain time, an angel of the Lord came down to the pool and stirred up the water. After the angel did this, the first person to go into the pool was healed from any sickness he had. A man was lying there who had been sick, an invalid and disabled for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw the man and knew that he had been sick and disabled for such a long time, Jesus asked him, do you want to be well? The sick man answered, Sir, there is no one to help me get into the pool when the water starts moving up. While I am coming to the water, someone else always gets in before me. Then Jesus said to him, stand up, rise. Pick up your bed and walk. And immediately the man was healed, he picked up his bed and began to walk. The day this happened was a Sabbath day. So the Jews said to the man who had been healed, today is the Sabbath. It is against our law for you to carry your bed on the Sabbath day. But he answered them, the man who made me well told me, pick up your bed and walk.” John 5:1-11

Expectations come through what we see with our eyes in ourselves, around us, and within us; through what we see in our health, in our jobs, and in our struggles; through what we see in our finances, see in our marriage, in our spouse, in our children, in our families, in our friends, and it grows stronger when the changes we desire does not come as soon as we want them. Expectation comes through what we also hear and know, but as Christians, our expectations for a miracle and change comes strongly from what we have heard, and know, testimonies of others, and the word of God which does not fail. The surest and strongest expectation anyone can and should have is in the word of God because God will always, irrespective of circumstances uphold all of His words and fulfill all of His plans for us. “The same thing is true of the words I speak out of my mouth. They will not return to me empty. They make the things happen that I want to happen and accomplish what I desire, my purpose, and they succeed in doing what I send them to do.” Isaiah 55:11

This man heard of the pool at Jerusalem, he heard testimonies from people about the pool; he was told how it had happened to others and how can happen to him; he was told what he will do and what to expect, based on what he was told, he made his way to Jerusalem and based on his expectations, placed his bed by the pool with many others waiting for the right time. This man witnessed the healing of others and resolved not to leave the place until he receives his own. people who took him there exhausted their patience and left but he remained with the expectation for his healing. At a point, he realized no one was around him again and no man was willing or ready to help him when the pool was stirred. Despite the fact there was no one left to push him into the water, he decided not to leave, not to abandon his desire, and not to forgo his expectations. Despite the fact he was sick for thirty-eight years, was disappointed by friends and family, was in the company of other sick people, had no comfort when he sees his inability at the time the pool was stirred by the angel, he was patient and hopeful enough to still maintain his expectations; his mind did not shift to something or somewhere else,  he refused the alternative of going home to die, and fortunately enough, Jesus Christ came to him with a conversation that changed and restored him far beyond all expectations.
