“I WILL DO WHATEVER YOU ASK” (08)

One interesting thing in the life of Elijah is that in all his prayers, he always ask God to do that which is impossible, and to do unusual things in all circumstances; he places demands before God that were beyond ordinary reasoning and wishes and understanding of men who think they are always very wise, always smart, have the understanding and are knowledgeable in all things, and in all his demands, God never in any way disappoint him. This was his first encounter and demand from God before king Ahab and in the presence of his ruling cabinet. “Now Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the settlers of Gilead, said to Ahab, as the Lord, the God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word.” 1 Kings 17:1

Note, in the passage above, Elijah did not begin his words by introducing himself to the King, he introduced God; he did not call himself a prophet before Ahab but said the God of Israel before whom I stand, signifying he had been with the Lord for a period of times, signifying also that he had prayed to God earnestly in his privacy and he was convinced of his words and his God, the God of Israel. Note also that Elijah did not narrate his private prayers to God in that narrative and did not say he received any specific instruction from God against king Ahab to lock up the heaven against him and his people and to prevent rain for three years or more. He did not say he was a special messenger from God to redeem Israel from the wickedness of the King, or to take Ahab down from the throne or to restore the glory of God in Israel or to fight against the Baal and his prophets. He told Ahab clearly, there will be no rain for these years and except I speak again, rain will not fall in the land.

Those words were unusual in the ears of king Ahab, it was unusual in those days for a man to claim he has the power to stop God from sending rain in its time and it was uncommon even among the people and the prophets of Baal. Note that Elijah gave Ahab this words when there was prosperity in the land when the people were satisfied with their wealth and abundance of food in Israel when the king believed he was making imparts and the people were happy. Elijah did not wait until he sees the signs of a draught coming in heaven or have a dream or sees in a vision before speaking to Ahab. He boldly declares to Ahab, there will never be rain unless I speak a word for it to return, and it was so. God honored his words before Ahab. Elijah, in all of demands and asking, they were to glorify God, to honor God and to restore the children of Israel back to the Almighty God and correct their deeds.

Christ Jesus gave us this assurance that whatever you (we) ask from our Father, it will be done. Are you waiting until you have a dream before you ask? Elijah did not. Are you waiting until you have a vision before you ask? Elijah did not. Are you waiting until you see signs in heaven before you ask? Elijah did not. Are you waiting until things get bad or worse before you ask? Elijah did not. Are you waiting until you have a prophesy before you ask? Elijah did not. Are waiting until you start suffering hardship, condemnation, discrimination, failure or shame before you ask? Elijah did not. Are you waiting until you receive a promise from men before you ask God? Elijah did not. Are you waiting until the promised doors are permanently closed against you before you ask? Elijah did not. Are you waiting until you are completely declared a failure by men and become a laughing stock by your family, friends, and colleagues before you ask? Elijah did not. “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him.” Matthew 7:7-12. Prayer Request Click here
