“And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the Lord, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah and Elkanah knew Hannah his wifeand the Lord remembered her.” 1 Samuel 1:19. Like every other woman, Hannah got married to Elkanah with joy; with high hopes and with good expectations, but soon after things turned around, all her joy disappeared, the home became a place of sadness, her hopes turn to nightmares, expectations took too long to be seen, patience and waiting became painful, her insults increased, targeted confrontations became the order of the day, her challenges increase and her thoughts became disturbed. Have you started something with joy and expectations and high hopes and suddenly it turns out to be something painful and disgusting to you? Hannah found a solution, not in man, not fighting back and not in seeking peace with someone who is not interested in making peace or letting her live her life. She found peace for herself, hope for her future, and strength for the rest of her life in prayers and in doing just that, God remembered her, and answered her, and God restored her joy, her hope and her pride of marriage.

“Peninnah her rival or foe would tease, taunt Hannah and upset, provoke, irritate, make fun of her because the  Lord had made her unable to have children. This happened every year whenever they went up to the house of the Lord at Shiloh. Peninnah would upset, taunt, provoke Hannah until Hannah would cry and not eat anything. Her husband Elkanah would say to her, Hannah, why are you crying and why won’t you eat? Why are you sad, downhearted? Don’t I mean more to you than ten sons? Once, after they had eaten their meal in Shiloh, Hannah got up. Now Eli the priest was sitting on a chair near the entrance to the Lord’s house, temple. Hannah was so sad, anguished, deeply distressed, bitter that she cried bitterly and prayed to the Lord. She made this promise vowsaying, Lord All-Powerful, Almighty, if You will look on the sorrow, affliction, misery, humiliation of your maidservant, and will remember and not forget me, and will give me your maidservant a son, I will give him back to You all the days of his life and no one will ever cut his hair with a razor, indicating consecration to the Lord as a Nazirite. While Hannah kept praying before the Lord, Eli watched her mouth. Hannah was praying in her heart silently, her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. So Eli thought she was drunk and said to her, how long are you going to stay drunk. Put away your wine, Hannah answered and said, no sir, I have not drunk any wine or beer. I am a deeply troubled woman, very discouraged, oppressed in spirit and I was telling theLord about all my problems, pouring out my heart before the Lord. Don’t think I am an evil worthless woman. I have been praying all this time because I have many troubles and am very sad, out of great anguish, anxiety, sorrow, and resentment. Eli answered, go, I wish you well, go in peace, may the God of Israel give you what you asked of him.” 1 Samuel 1:6-17

Your prayers and commitment can change your sadness into joy, it can restore your hope and your countenance, it can make God to remember you and to reward you, it can fast forward your life and bring an abundance of joy and satisfaction. That was what prayers did for Hannah and will also do for you despite your situation, age, location, and profession. There are many situations in life that make people feel God had forgotten them or will never remember them or will never pardon them or will never bless them, Hannah had such a situation and was bitter about it and to make things worse for her, her rival in marriage used the situation to abuse her, humiliate her, insult her and make her sad, and Hannah felt the Lord had forgotten her and embarked on a move to plead with God to remember her and He did. When situations are bad and the feeling becomes a burden, take it to the Lord in prayers; when people humiliate and insult you on things that are beyond your control, take it to the Lord in prayers. Do not fight back, trust God to lift you beyond that situation by remembering you today. Prayer Request Click here
