SEVEN THINGS JABEZ KNEW

Jabez had seven things to his advantage before praying. (1) He was still alive. Despite what is going on right now, God is preserving your live for a purpose, like He did with the life of Jabez. If you have live, then you have hope, and if you have Christ Jesus, then you have all the assurance and support you need to do what is right, acceptable, to pray and to demand a positive change in your live. Jesus said “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing” John 15:5.

(2) Jabez knew he had an unusual and uncommon problem to deal with in his life. You cannot hide a protracted problem for too long and you cannot feign ignorance of one. The more you hide it the more destructive it becomes. The sooner you truly realize and admit your problem, the better you will be in handling them and in seeking ways of overcoming them. Apostle Paul was a healer, but this is what he said of himself; “And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.” 2 Corinthians 12:7-8

(3) Jabez knew the source of his problem. He knew it was beyond his parents and he knew it was beyond his ability, but he did not give up despite his weakness in effecting the change he desired. Knowledge places you in a better position to deal with what is at hand, but what you do with what you know will either be destructive or rewarding to you. Jabez did not decide to confront his parents in any negative way to solve his problem; all he did was to obtain the true story from them. “Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honor thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth” Ephesians 6:1-3. That is unconditional.

(4) Jabez knew he needed a complete change; a new opportunity, and a second chance, he needed a complete new life to be what he want to be and to dream new dreams, have new visions and see the things he desires in his life. If you do not need a change, then you will be living in the glory of yesterday and missing in the splendor that God had desired for you. “Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert” Isaiah 43:19. If God said He will make a new thing, it is your duty to ask for it, He will only give when you ask.

(5) He knew how to pray. Pray is committing your expectations, your dreams and your desires to God and waiting on Him till the result comes. Jabez must have been thought how to pray by his parents. He believed that what his parents were unable to do in their own prayer life, he can do in his own prayers. Do not judge yourself with the prayers of others; God wants to hear your voice. You do not need a certificate in order to pray; all you need is to know and to have Jesus Christ as your only Lord and savior

(6) Jabez knew the God of Israel. Not any other god, but the one who is the only true God. The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob, the one who was and is and is to come, the one who alone can do all things, change all situations and nothing can successfully change or challenge any of His authority. “But the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.” Daniel 11:32b

(7) Based on what he knew, Jabez knew how to engage himself in prayer. Irrespective of the reasons for unanswered prayers, “Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear.” Isaiah 59:1 Prayer is never a waste even when it takes years for the result to manifest itself. If you refused to pray, you will forever live in the fantasy of the unpredicted wishful and uncertain world. Pray and believe God for answers. For Prayer Click here
