"LORD, I AM DEEPLY DISCOURAGED (1)"

“As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him? Day and night I have only tears for food, while my enemies continually taunt me, saying, where is this God of yours? My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be: I walked among the crowds of worshipers, leading a great procession to the house of God, singing for joy and giving thanks amid the sound of a great celebration. Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God; I will praise him again, my Savior and my God. Now I am deeply discouraged, but I will remember you even from distant Mount Hermon, the source of the Jordan, from the land of Mount Mizar. I hear the tumult of the raging seas as your waves and surging tides sweep over me. But each day the Lord pours his unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing his songs, praying to God who gives me life. O God my rock, I cry, why have you forgotten me? Why must I wander around in grief, oppressed by my enemies? Their taunts break my bones. They scoff, where is this God of yours? Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God, I will praise him again my Savior and my God.” Psalm 42:1-11

The feeling of discouragement is not strange, has a reason and is not out of place when we face some situations as we walk with the Lord, try to live in obedience to His words and be what He had destined us to be. After all the efforts we put in to be strong and relevant, when our output is short of our expectations, as human beings, we will feel discouraged; when our enemies seems to be having victory over us even in areas they should never have the victory according to the words and promises of God to us, we are bound to feel discouraged; when the struggles in our lives seem endless and our patience and waiting for a particular desire is taking too long and age and time seem to be passing fast on us, we are bound to be discouraged. When we are laughed at for being Christians and still lacking basic needs, unable to satisfy even our own family, and watching while the good things of life slip by us daily, we are bound to be discouraged; when we are being pushed down and shamefully treated for not being what they expect of us, we are bound to be discouraged; when our family is falling apart, when our finances and source the of our income is not stable, we bound to be discouraged, but despite the reason we give and have for being discouraged, despite the effects of such on our self and our relationship, and despite the what the devil wants to see and hear from us from being discouraged, there is hope, I mean there is a redemptive hope and assurance in the word of God and in His presence for our restoration and for the fulfillment of all of His plans and purpose for our lives.

Discouragement is not a thing or a feeling for the poor or the sick or the lonely alone; everyone living or dead had sometimes in their lives faced some form of discouragement. Discouragement does not respect personality or office or location or gender or race or profession. The high had seen discouragement and the low likewise. Christians and none Christians had also experienced discouragement in their lives, in the things they do, and in the things they have, but despite what causes the discouragement and the reasons for it, there is hope for you in Christ Jesus and there is peace for you in Him. Discouragement will not destroy God’s plans for you and let it not destroy your dreams and desires to become better and to have victory; let it not cause you to draw back from following and trusting God and depending on Him; let it not force you to do evil or do that which God will frown at and withdraw His favor from you. In whatever situation you find yourself, in whatever feelings you experience in life, never be discouraged from following the Lord and from trusting in Him. Our God is a restorer of hope, a restorer of dreams, a restorer of destiny and He is perfect in doing whatever He had destined to do and He will definitely do yours. Keep your trust in Him.
