With what they saw and with what they knew about themselves and their enemies, they had good and genuine reasons to fear, good and genuine reasons to feel helpless, good and genuine reasons to cry, panic, and be sorrowful, and they had good and genuine reasons to think of the end of their future desires and dreams and assurance in the promises of God for them. A large number came out to attack a helpless people, a defenseless people, and people who had declared themselves physically weak but with enormous spiritual power lying idle on the inside of their spirit and heart. They had gathered before their king to seek help, urging him to do something that will save them from being killed or destroyed. The king was as helpless as the people but despite their physical weaknesses and helplessness, despite their confusion and confessed fears, and despite their sorrows, they never forgot they had the Almighty God with them.

Among those crying and expressing weaknesses were Levites, men who were chosen by God and consecrated by God to be the spiritual leaders of the people, men who had accepted to be used by God as instruments of joy and assurance of His presence with the people, men who had been used before by God to speak the word and mind of God to the people, and men whom the people respect and look up to for spiritual direction and comfort. But despite the large crowd, the defenseless people, the weapons against them and the equipped armies of the enemies, a word came from the Lord God through one of the Levites called Jahaziel, a word of assurance, a word of comfort, a word of restoration of confidence not in themselves but in their God; a word that they desperately needed, a word that gave them the courage to act immediately, the courage to dry their wet eyes and refrain from being sorrowful, courage to lift their heads up and look to heaven for help, a word of courage that reminded them God was still interested in them, and a word that brought them the victory and the testimony they needed. You will have God’s testimony.

“You are our God, punish them, for we are helpless in the face of this large army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but we look to you for help. All the men of Judah, with their wives and children, were standing there at the Temple. The spirit of the Lord came upon a Levite who was present in the crowd. His name was Jahaziel son of Zechariah, was a member of the clan of Asaph and was descended from Asaph through Mattaniah, Jeiel, and Benaiah. Jahaziel said, Your Majesty and all you people of Judah and Jerusalem, the Lord says that you must not be discouraged or be afraid to face this large army. The battle depends on God, not on you. Attack them tomorrow as they come up the pass at Ziz. You will meet them at the end of the valley that leads to the wild country near Jeruel. You will not have to fight this battle. Just take up your positions and wait, you will see the Lord give you victory. People of Judah and Jerusalem, do not hesitate or be afraid. Go out to battle, and the Lord will be with you. Then King Jehoshaphat bowed low, with his face touching the ground, and all the people bowed with him and worshiped the Lord. The members of the Levite clans of Kohath and Korah stood up and with a loud shout praised the Lord, the God of Israel.” 2 Chronicles 20:12-19

It was amazing to see what happened immediately after they heard the word. Some of the Levites from the clans of Kohath and Korah immediately busted out with a loud praise to the living God, a loud praise to the word of God in times of need, loud praise of the word of God in their times of sorrow and weakness, and as they sang and praise the Lord, the whole congregation of Israel joins in the loud praise, and God began His work of disarming and destroying the enemies who had gathered against Israel. God started showing Israel His testimonies in the presence of fear, He showed the enemies His power and ability to defend and deliver. They celebrate victory instead. There is power in praise after God’s word of courage and assurance. Will you join me now to praise God for what He is about for and in you? For prayers, Click here
