OH LORD, I AM WAITING

One of the most painful moments in one’s life is the period of waiting on a promise either from man or from God. But despite the nature of the promise, it is always a time of mixed fillings of fears, excitement, doubts, temptations, trials, tears, accusations and counter accusation, rejections and calling of unpleasant names by friends, family and foes. The most painful of them all which incidentally is the most beneficial is the separation and rejection from people you earlier trusted.

While the devil uses this period to do all his evil works, our Lord also uses this period to equip, develop and strengthen us with His unique characters that will sustain us till the promises are fulfilled and beyond.

Many today have spent this period in endless expectations with tears, loneliness and frustrations. To most, this period is the most difficult and most cruel they have ever experienced. Many also have come cross moods that have affected everything about them negatively. But despite these moods, the good news is that, irrespective of what you are waiting for from our Lord Jesus Christ, your waiting time will never be forever. In His love and continuous mercies, God will never intentionally keep you in waiting indefinitely. If the time is prolonged, keep waiting, keep trusting, and keep expecting. He is never like man that changes His words. Remember, though the children of Israel spent forty years instead of forty day, they still reached the Promised Land and you will reach yours also.

During this period, there are certain things we need to keep doing; investing in our relationship with man and with God. It should never be a time of gloom, self- condemnation, retaliation, evil plots against anyone and anger. It should be a time of more prayers, reading, meditation, good relationship with men and with God, good deeds and charity. It should be a time we really invest more on Godly ethics and characters that the devil will never be able to destroy. One of such character to be developed is patience. The only time patience is fully developed and tested is the period of our waiting for God to visit us according to His words and promises.

This is David’s experience, prayers and words of advice to us in our waiting time. “Teach me how to live, O Lord. Lead me along the right path, for my enemies are waiting for me. Do not let me fall into their hands. For they accuse me of things I have never done; with every breath they threaten me with violence. Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living. Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.” Psalm 27 13-14 (NLT)

He asked for God’s leading, guidance, and sustenance. He talked about his confidence in the unfailing mercies of God to give him the promise in the land of the living, and asked us to patiently wait with courage and to be brave in our declarations.

As we wait, God will confirm His word in the ways that best suites His purpose. Our relationship with others matters. God can use men to fulfill His words. After David was anointed King, God used men to introduce David to King Saul in his times of need and to take over the throne. What if David did not have a good relationship with the people, it would have been more difficult for him. When Christ Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, He asked the people to lose the grave clothing from Lazarus body

It is one thing to wait on the Lord and another to be prepared for the manifestation of the things you are waiting for. God will never fail, His ways are everlasting and His words are true. In His love He promised you, and in His mercies He will fulfill them all. Patiently wait on the Lord; He will surely fulfill all of His promises to you. Wait on the Lord
