DRIVEN BY DESIRE – ISRAEL STRAYED --- YOU SHOULD NOT

I desire to be like others around me; I want to have what others have; I want to follow the ways they follow and go where they go; I want to live like them; look like them; speak like them, act like them, live and work near them. These desires are changing many people, changing the ways people see and understand godly excellence and godly direction for their lives. You are unique before God in every aspect of life irrespective of your color and wealth, Israel was and is still a unique nation before God. God made you, knows you, and knows what is best for you every day and the best place to keep you on earth. He is committed to taking you where He had destined for you by the power of His love in your salvation as long as you are also committed to remaining in Him irrespective of the competition around, what you think, see, and know. He never fails in His commitments even when you are surrounded by ten thousand equipped enemies ready to have you destroyed n every side of living.

It was the desire to be like other nations that Israel began to stray away from their relationship with the Almighty God in the days of Samuel. God was not pleased with their desire and demand. It was not in God’s plan that Israel would get so low in their desires. It is not in God’s plan that you will go so low in your desires and strayed away from His pans; it is not in His plan that you will in any way suffer from any kind of sickness or disease; that you should be humiliated, insulted, frustrated or hopeless; that you would be lonely and isolated, in His wisdom, He gave Adam Eve and instituted marriage and family. It is not God’s intention that you should be in any kind of trouble at any time and in any place. Most of the troubles we find ourselves are connected with our wrong desires and decisions in life that were fulfilled. In His troubles, Job made this great commitment in Job 23:11-14 “I follow faithfully the road He chooses, and never wander to either side. I always do what God commands; I follow His will, not my own desires. He never changes. No one can oppose Him or stop Him from doing what He wants to do. He will fulfill what He has planned for me; that plan is just one of the many He has.”

What God promised you still stands; that is His plan irrespective of what you are going through or what is going through in your life, what others are saying or doing. When we desire what God had not destined because of the desire to be like others, we suffered the consequences and the hardship that will follow. God has His plans for you and He will fulfill them irrespective of the delays and the humiliations of not seeing them now. Ishmael, the son of Hagar, Sarah’s servant was born into Abraham’s family due to a personal desire by Sarah that was fulfilled; he was not what God planned for them. Adam and Eve were driven out of the Garden of Eden God had at first placed them because of the fulfillment of a wrong desire, they never got back again even when they wanted thereafter. Desire can change you and change everything about you quickly now and in the presence of God. While God had given us the ability to know and desire things, He wants us to desire His will, accept and surrender to His plan, and follow His ways. He wants our heart to be controlled by His word and not our feelings and understanding of ourselves.

God did not want Israel to go astray, or remain without His guide and safety; He did not want to keep them outside His authority, but in their desire to be like other people and nations, Israel went astray; they departed from God’s plan, showed their rejection of the God who made them, choose them, guided them, lead them, protected them, preserved them for Himself, and kept them from all harm. That single desire brought Israel into all the troubles they have been having from then till this very day. People go astray because of their desires and Nations are destroyed because of evil desires. Once we depart from the desires of God knowingly or unknowingly, we begin the spiral fall from grace and from the heights that God had prepared for us. Watch your desires, despite the comfort you have in them, they can destroy you. For prayers, Click here
