YOU NEED GOD’S PROTECTION AS DAVID (3)

“There is no king saved by the multitude of a host; a mighty man is not delivered by much strength. A horse is a vain thing for safety; neither shall he deliver any by his great strength. Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear Him, upon them that hope in His mercy, to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waiteth for the Lord, He is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we have trusted in His holy name. Let thy mercy O Lord, be upon us according as we hope in thee.” Psalm 33:16-22

The God who through His love and mercy had promised you things that are bigger than dreams, better than your knowledge, things you know your best efforts cannot guarantee you, and things you know the help of men cannot accomplish in your life. He will make ways for His words to be fulfilled irrespective of the darkness and forces of evil and wickedness surrounding you; He will use His might to establish you where He had promised; He will open doors that cannot open on its own for you, and in His love and power, He will give you opportunities that you will never miss or anyone take them from you. It is on record that God was the one who established David, not his skills. David said right from the day he stepped into the palace as a servant to serve King Saul in Psalms 23:4-6 “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. That was the assurance David gave himself; that was the assurance he used to encourage himself through the times Saul tried to kill him. Did you know you have that same assurance today?

David had no prior intent of being a King but he was anointed by Samuel and given the promise from God to make him one despite the odds. When David received God’s promise from Samuel, someone he never knew and never asked recommended and spoke to the King mentioning his skill and the need of the King concerning his sickness; that recommendation and brought David to the place where he will remain and see the fulfillment of the promise God gave to him through the anointing; from then on, David moved from one trouble to another but God stood with him, was for him, defended him, and gave him the protection he needed until the day he became what God had said of him before all Israel.

From the time the prophet Samuel anointed young David to be Israel’s next king after Saul in the presence of his family, the Lord was with David to protect him from Saul’s jealous wrath which was fierce; multiple times King Saul attempted to kill David, twice Saul personally fling a spear at David, to pin him to the wall and eventually kill him but God protected David. Every form of evil or people or system or spirits walking to stop you from what God had said will not succeed. God will keep you from being harmed; He will protect you from being destroyed; He will sustain you with His grace and by His power until you are established. Despite those attempts on his life, David did not give up on the words of the promise; did not cry to God to change the promises or the scene; did not ask God to kill Saul, and did not in any way feel offended by what he was going through because of trusting the promise of God. All he did was to reassure himself; the God who anointed me for this position, He will fulfill it. The God who called me out from being in the forest will keep me; the God who made and knows my future, He will make it so. You need to give yourself this same assurance today. God will not leave you after speaking to you irrespective of the situation you find yourself in following His promises. “He chose his servant, David, calling him from the sheep pens. He took David from tending the ewes and lambs and made him the shepherd of Jacob’s descendants—God’s own people, Israel. He cared for them with a true heart and led them with skillful hands.” Psalm 78:70. For prayers, Click here
