“Now the Philistines gathered their forces for war and assembled at Sokoh in Judah. They pitched camp at Ephes Dammim, between Sokoh and Azekah. Saul and the Israelites assembled and camped in the Valley of Elah and drew up their battle line to meet the Philistines. The Philistines occupied one hill and the Israelites another, with the valley between them. A champion named Goliath, who was from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp. His height was six cubits and a span. He had a bronze helmet on his head and wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing five thousand shekels, on his legs he wore bronze greaves, and a bronze javelin was slung on his back. His spear shaft was like a weaver’s rod, and its iron point weighed six hundred shekels. His shield-bearer went ahead of him. Goliath stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, why do you come out and line up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not the servants of Saul? Choose a man and have him come down to me. If he is able to fight and kill me, we will become your subjects; but if I overcome him and kill him, you will become our subjects and serve us.” 1 Samuel 17:1-9.

In the battle between the armies of Israel and that of the Philistines, both sides were prepared and armed and they all assembled in the right place for the battle but they were not willing to engage each other in the fight. Goliath came out with a challenge, with a voice of command, showed his weapons, his defense, and his preparedness, and demanded a man from the armies of Israel to confront him. He was tall, trained, equipped, respected and feared. His weapons and training gave him all the confidence he needed; his height gave him courage and advantage, but he was about to be defeated by a boy with something insignificant but definitely mightier than his javelin and spears and weapons of war and of defense.

I know you are prepared for victory, every Christian should; I know you have prayed for victory, everyone should; I know you have the desire for victory and expect victory in every situation, and in all circumstances, that is the promise of God for you and He will grant you the promise, but are you prepared for the battle before the expected victory? Are you equipped for the battle that will announce you to the world and confirm your readiness to be used by the Almighty God? Are you ready to stand your ground in Christ and in His word until the promised victory comes in every situation and condition that will come your way? No one expects battle but it will come, no one expects confrontations but it will come, no one expects to be hindered but the devil will try it, no one expects to be humiliated but Satan will desire it for you, no one is expected to be denied the good things of life but that is the desire of the devil at all times against all the true believers and followers of Jesus Christ, but we are assured in the scriptures that in all of these things, we are and we will be more than just a conqueror in Christ before they come and we will be declared the winner through Christ Jesus when they actually comes. “The Lord will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven.” Deuteronomy 28:7-8

David was not anointed to fight a battle but to be the next King in Israel after Saul; his anointing by Samuel was not in any way challenged by anyone but for David to be the king which he was anointed to be, he had to face numerous battles and challenges and had to overcome all of them. To have the victory, he had to be equipped for the battle and be ready to stand in the battle until what God had promised come to pass. The same is applicable to all of us today. There are many promises from God to you that must be fulfilled, but you will have to fight in the battle that will announce what God had said of you and confirm the promises of God in your life; you will have to fight them with the right mind, with the right weapons, and above all, you will have to fight according to His word and His plans, not your words or ideas.
