When Samuel got to Jesse’s house and on seeing the brothers of David, he almost made a human error in judgment that would have made David lost the opportunity destined by God for him, but God was there to speak to Samuel on behalf of David at a time when human understanding of divine direction was needed. Samuel got the right house, to the right family, and stood before the right children of Jesse with the anointing oil in his hands. Jesse presented Eliab, the eldest of his sons before Samuel and Samuel almost made a mistake in anointing him, but God refused it. God did not make a mistake in your salvation then and will not make a mistake in leading you now. He will not allow someone else to take your place, or take your position despite their influence and wealth. God will never make a mistake in your case irrespective of its nature or duration and He did not or will not make a mistake in your recommendation. He will never make a mistake in your calling and mission; He will never make a mistake in the position He has destined for you, and He will never make any mistake in leading you to the place and position He had destined.

He is the one who made you, He will open the way that you will take and will keep you on that way by His power alone. Frustrations, disappointments, or failures are painful, but none is enough reason to make God change His mind, His word, or His plans concerning you. When God recommended David to be anointed, He did not give Samuel his picture or tell him how he looks, God only told Samuel ‘I have seen a man after my heart’. Samuel did not have prior knowledge of David, but God knew David and recommended he should be anointed.

This is what happened in the house of Jesse that day; “When they came, he looked on Eliab and thought, surely the Lord’s anointed is before him. But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees; man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart. Then Jesse called Abinadab and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, “Neither has the Lord chosen this one.” Then Jesse made Shammah pass by. And he said neither has the Lord chosen this one. And Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. And Samuel said to Jesse, the Lord has not chosen these. Then Samuel said to Jesse, Are all your sons here? And he said, there remains yet the youngest, but behold, he is keeping the sheep. And Samuel said to Jesse, Send and get him, for we will not sit down till he comes here. And he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy and had beautiful eyes and was handsome. And the Lord said, Arise, anoint him, for this is he. Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward.” 1 Samuel 16:6-13

In that meeting, David was not present, he was in the forest and forgotten to be invited in even by his father, but he was not forgotten by the Almighty God who had chosen and recommended him for His mission and for the position. Samuel told Jesse, we will not sit down until David is located and brought before them. It was only when David finally came and was anointed that Samuel and everyone present sat down, had peace in themselves before Samuel left the house. Whoever or whatever holds you back from what God had prepared you for will not find peace until you are release, located, and confirmed; whoever forgets you cannot compel God to also forget you. David was not forgotten by God neither did God change His mind because of the actions of Jesse or the status or influence of Eliab his brother.

After the anointing, strange things started happening around David, the lions, the bears, and the people came after him but God was there to train him physically for the task ahead; to defend him from being killed by those lions and bears, and God was there to deliver him from whatever will come after him for destruction. God is with you even in all of your afflictions to defend and to deliver you from being destroyed. He will establish you. For prayers, Click here
