“LORD, KEEP ME FROM EVIL”

Post date: Sep 19, 2013 3:15:51 AM

Beyond your strength, God will keep you, as you have called on Him, so will He do. There will always be an exceeding joy when the blessings from above begin to flow in your life and in the things you do daily. God will not bless you and hide it from your knowledge, they will be clearly magnified for the world to see and appreciate His goodness. He blessed Elizabeth, Mary’s cousin and did no hide it, though she did hid herself. Luke 1:36. God will not light a lamp and prevent it from shining bright for the whole world including Satan to see. There is joy in having more than enough and being able to generously spare to others. There is joy in knowing that God is with you and that you are in Him and everything about your daily life are secured in His hands. There is also the safety assurance of spiritual and physical security in Him; it is true that nothing can take you out of His hands, but you have to be very careful with many unplanned and unnoticed evil that the devil will throw at you in all things.

Jabez was a man of great wisdom and insight despite all his life adversities, he was a man whose knowledge of what lies ahead, what God can and will do, and what the devil will do thereafter was very exceptional compared to that of his parents. He was a man of focused determination with a great desire for a sustained success from God. When Jabez added that phrase “keep me from evil” he knew what he was referring to. He knew will come, he knew that his strength, his wisdom and his foresight may fail him and he did not want to take anything for granted so included his words in his prayer; “And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain” 1 Chronicles 4:10

All the activities of the devil will always end in evil, but when we pray, trust and commit ourselves to His hands, we can be assured of safety whenever he comes with his plans. The scripture reminds us of the shield of God in the life of Job which prevented him from having his plans executed in his life. When Satan was unable to get Job to submit to his thoughts and ways, he went through his children, his marriage and his business. Though Job suffered because of the devil’s activities, the Lord sustained him and kept him from being destroyed, He greatly restored him thereafter.

It is good to always remember that whenever God begins anything in your life, it will always be for your good and He will definitely finish it despite the years, the delays and all the battles the devil will bring against you because of that good thing. Because He began it, He will sustain it, defend it, replenish it and secure it for you when you actively and daily submit those things and yourself to Him in everything you do physically and in your daily prayers. God does not, and will not resist anyone of their riches or blessing. He only resists those who are proud of their riches and those who use such wrongly, those who fail to be submissive to Him as a result of the riches and those who fail to humble themselves before Him.

Here is wisdom for you from proverbs 16:16-21“How much better to get wisdom than gold, to get insight rather than silver. The highway of the upright avoids evil; those who guard their ways preserve their lives. Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Better to be lowly in spirit along with the oppressed than to share plunder with the proud. Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord. The wise in heart are called discerning, and gracious words promote instruction.”

The devil wants to cut you off from the peaceful covenant of God; he wants to make you speak against your God and against His goodness. He wants find fault in your life, in your words and to use such against you. The prayer of Jabez here was that for security.
