FAITH AND COURAGE

At some point in time in everything you will ever do, you will meet a period of testing and a time of exhaustion, a time you feel like quitting and a time you will be sad. A time you will feel the weight of continuing is just too heavy for you to carry, a time that your bones will be too weak to carry your body around. These times often come when we look back to our efforts and measure that effort with our level of success, when we see others around us with their successes despite their little effort comparably, when we fail to receive meaningful courage from friends and colleagues, and when our partners are not as strong as we assume they should be.

It is evident that when our faith in Christ Jesus is steadfast and we are faithfully committed to what we do according to God’s will, we will succeed. Do not be discouraged when men fail you, do not be disturbed when the day is fast winding down on you, when men cannot, and will not help you, God can and He will. Besides, there are many things that men will not be able to do.

Read what happen to Jesus “Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and He told His disciples, Sit down here while I go over yonder and pray. And taking with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, He began to show grief and distress of mind and was deeply depressed. Then He said to them, My soul is very sad and deeply grieved, so that I am almost dying of sorrow. Stay here and keep awake and keep watch with Me. And going a little farther, He threw Himself upon the ground on His face and prayed saying, My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will [not what I desire], but as You will and desire. And He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and He said to Peter, What! Are you so utterly unable to stay awake and keep watch with Me for one hour? All of you must keep awake (give strict attention, be cautious and active) and watch and pray, that you may not come into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. Again a second time He went away and prayed, My Father, if this cannot pass by unless I drink it, Your will be done. And again He came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were weighed down with sleep. So, leaving them again, He went away and prayed for the third time, using the same words. Then He returned to the disciples and said to them, Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of especially wicked sinners [whose way or nature it is to act in opposition to God].” Matthew 26:36-45

On two simultaneous occasions, our Lord Jesus Christ was disappointed by His disciple’s inability to pray with Him even after walking hand-in-hand with them to the place of prayer and telling them how His soul is sad and deeply grieved and what was to happen to Him soon. But despite what they did, Christ still remained faithful and courageous to the end. Do not subject your faith and courage to the actions of men but to the words and promises of God for you. When all things fail you, God and His word will not fail you. Though Christ did not overcome at the point of prayer, He prevailed at the cross.

At every point in life, you need faith and courage. Faith in the promises of God, and courage to keep trusting that God is working it out for you as He had promised, I am convinced you will never remain at that same point the next time you subject yourself to self-assessment.  Faith grows through a consistent hearing of the truth in the word of God concerning your life and your situation; while courage is built on trusting absolutely on that word that it will never fail. And the Lord answered, If you had faith (trust and confidence in God) even [so small] like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, Be pulled up by the roots, and be planted in the sea, and it would obey you.” Luke 17:7.
