“But on the way, Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, go back to your mothers homes. And may the Lord reward you for your kindness to your husbands and to me. May the Lord bless you with the security of another marriage. Then she kissed them good-bye, and they all broke down and wept. No, they said. We want to go with you to your people. But Naomi replied, why should you go on with me? Can I still give birth to other sons who could grow up to be your husbands? No, my daughters, return to your parents’ homes, for I am too old to marry again. And even if it were possible, and I were to get married tonight and bear sons, then what? Would you wait for them to grow up and refuse to marry someone else? No, of course not, my daughters, Things are far more bitter for me than for you, because the Lord himself has raised his fist against me. And again they wept together, and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law good-bye. But Ruth clung tightly to Naomi. Look, Naomi said to her, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods. You should do the same. But Ruth replied, don’t ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God. Wherever you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord punish me severely if I allow anything but death to separate us. When Naomi saw that Ruth was determined to go with her, she said nothing more.” Ruth 1:8-18.

The life of Ruth is very unique in many ways but the most amazing is what she later became in life as a result of the divine connection she established and nurtured through obedience with the mother of her late husband Naomi. Their relationship went far beyond being the wife of Naomi’s late son, and enhanced through Ruth’s careful decision and determination to keep to her words despite knowing the numerous handicaps of Naomi to advance her interest any further in life.

Ruth knew everything about Naomi before that very blessed day she decided to make her most profound statement that later shaped her entire future and brought her to the limelight she never ever thought of in life. Besides being a widow, Ruth knew Naomi had also lost all her children; she knew Naomi was a widow who had lost all her pride, all her hopes, all her joy, all her family inheritance and all the sources of income. She knew she was physically old with no hope of ever getting married again or having any children again. She knew Naomi was in a foreign country, but all that she knew about Naomi, did not make her to think otherwise about her, but rather made her to trust in Naomi’s God and to maintain the divine connection.

What you know can either be a blessing to your thoughts and desires in life or actually destroy your thoughts and your life entirely depending on how you use them. What do you know about the person the Lord desires you to have a lasting divine connection with? That which you know, how is it affecting your decision to follow that person and to remain obedient to your God? How is what you now know conflicting with your own desires and plans for the future? How is your decision to maintain that divine connection enhancing your relationship with God? How is that connection encouraging you to remain faithful, humble and obedient to the Almighty God in all things and to trust the more for your future? The reasons for divine connections are numerous, but the ultimate is the promotion and continuation of godliness, godly excellence, obedience and faithfulness before God and man.

Ruth never knew things will change for the best for her, but she happily maintained that divine connection with Naomi until the two of them experienced the move of God they never expected and the restoration of hope and life they never dream of having, that what a divine connection can do and will do for you.  A divine connection is not to promote self but to fulfill God’s will and plans for your life, and it is deliberately maintained after God through the leading of His Spirit initiates the contact for you.
