“Enemies disguise themselves with their lips, but in their hearts they harbor deceit. Though their speech is charming, do not believe them, for seven abominations fill their hearts. Their malice may be concealed by deception, but their wickedness will be exposed in the assembly. Whoever digs a pit will fall into it; if someone rolls a stone, it will roll back on them.” Proverbs 27:24-27. It is true that the lion’s den was purposely prepared to kill Daniel, but he survived it, not because he was stronger than the lions, not because he was able to fight them off, not because he was able to pray or fast consistently; not because he had people praying and interceding on his behalf, but Daniel survived because God showed up for him even after the enemies had succeeded to throw him into the den for destruction. Whatever den that had been prepared for your destruction, you will survive them because God will show up for you as He showed up for Daniel.

Before the lion’s den was made for Daniel’s destruction, he was one of the trusted administer of King Darius; he was a trusted administrator whose opinions and counsel to the king was always true and sincere with no intention of defrauding the system. He was loved by the king and always respected but his fellow administrators did not like his sincerity though they loved his ability and knowledge and wisdom in doing the job. Before the lion’s den, Daniel was persuaded and pressured to bow to the demands of other administrators to do evil, to compromise the ethics of faithful and godly stewardship, he was persuaded to change, to drop his style of administration and follow their methods but in all their persuasions, and pressure, Daniel refused and he had to face the consequences they laid down for his refusal, they scheduled his death in the lion’s den and were able to convinced the king to set a trap for Daniel in his worship.

“So at last the king gave the order for Daniel’s arrest, and he was taken to the den of lions. The king said to him, may your God, whom you worship continually, deliver you. And then they threw him in. A stone was brought and placed over the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his own signet ring and with that of his government so that no one could rescue Daniel from the lions. Then the king returned to his palace and went to bed without dinner. He refused his usual entertainment and didn’t sleep all night. Very early the next morning he hurried out to the lions’ den and called out in anguish, O Daniel, servant of the Living God, was your God, whom you worship continually, able to deliver you from the lions? Then he heard a voice, your Majesty, live forever, it was Daniel. My God has sent His angel, he said, to shut the lions’ mouths so that they can’t touch me, for I am innocent before God; nor, sir, have I wronged you. The king was beside himself with joy and ordered Daniel lifted from the den. And not a scratch was found on him because he believed in his God. Then the king issued a command to bring the men who had accused Daniel and throw them into the den along with their children and wives, and the lions leaped upon them and tore them apart before they even hit the bottom of the den. Afterward, King Darius wrote this message addressed to everyone in his empire. Greetings, I decree that everyone shall tremble and fear before the God of Daniel in every part of my kingdom. For his God is the living, unchanging God whose kingdom shall never be destroyed and whose power shall never end. He delivers his people, preserving them from harm; he does great miracles in heaven and earth; it is he who delivered Daniel from the power of the lions. So Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.” Daniel 6:16-24

Before the lion’s den, Daniel knew, believed, and trusted the Almighty God. He was a man who always prays three times a day openly and often to the Almighty God, an administrator in one of the provinces and he was known to be upright by everyone. In order to destroy him when he refused to bow to their made god whom they used as a trap, they built the lion’s den but God in His power was there to deliver Daniel and He did for his trust in Him.
