“The law of the Lord is perfect, flawless, restoring and refreshing the soul, the statutes of the Lord are reliable and trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart, the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever, the judgments of the Lord are true, they are righteous altogether.” Psalms 19:7-9. (1) The law of the Lord, (2) the statutes of the Lord, (3) the precepts of the Lord, (4) the commandment of the Lord, and (5) the fear of the Lord. These were the five pillars that Job built his life around and they earned him righteousness before God, they brought blessings from God, they built a physical and a spiritual hedge of protection around him such that Satan was unable to harm him or his business, and they also caused Satan to envy him, envy his family, and seek to destroy him and his wealth. Satan even expressed his desire against Job and his wealth right before God

Because of these five pillars, Job enjoyed a better life, a rewarding business, faithful associates, a hopeful and promising family, and also had the worst experience of human suffering. The good news is that Job’s story did not end in his losing all; did not end in his not having any family alive, and did not end in his sickness, pains, and suffering lasting the rest of his life. Because Job did not in any way abandoned those five pillars despite his sufferings, losing all he ever had, and being accused by previous associates, God made a way for Job and he later had the very best of what wealth, family, and relations he ever had before, he had the best living which only God could do and could provide for a person no one believed or thought could survive that kind of sufferings and pains. You will not suffer in vain, you will not remain in pains forever, the best from God is coming, better than your thoughts, dreams, words, and imaginations, God in His love and power will make it happen, He will take you there, and He will establish you in it.

It is good and better for us to follow and built our lives around the five pillars above as Job did. Observing Job’s life, we can say Job was a very careful man, he was alert to things of God, to the ways of God, to prayers for his children by name and by day, he kept himself close to God in his righteousness and fear, he honored God deliberately and sincerely, he submitted everything in his life to God willingly and in obedience. What happened to Job was a shock to him, a shock to his wife, a shock to his friends, and a shock to the people who knew him before, who knew how he lived and conducted his life and all his affairs. But God allowed the shock to happen for a reason, for a moment, and for His intent. Unknown to Job was the fact that Satan had desired him, had obtained a permit from God to destroy or kill him, and since Satan could not kill Job, he decided to destroy his faith and trust in God by killing his children and destroying his wealth. Remember the main target of this attack was not Job’s children or Job’s wealth but Job himself, but God was in every way making a perfect way for Job to be restored.

“The Lord restored the fortunes of Job when he prayed for his friends, and the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. Then all his brothers and sisters and all who had known him before came to him, and they ate bread with him in his house, and they consoled him and comforted him over all the distressing adversities that the Lord had brought on him. And each one gave him a piece of money, and each a ring of gold. And the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning, for he had 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 yoke of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys. He had seven sons and three daughters. And he called the name of the first daughter Jemimah, and the name of the second Keziah, and the name of the third Keren-happuch. In all the land there were found no women so fair as the daughters of Job, and their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers. After this, Job lived 140 years and saw his sons and his grandsons, four generations. So Job died, an old man and full of days.” Job 42:10-17.
