DEAR FATHER, WHERE SHOULD I GO? (II)

“Now there was a famine in the land of Canaan, besides the previous famine that had occurred in the days of Abraham. So Isaac went to Gerar, to Abimelech king of the Philistines. The Lord appeared to him and said, do not go down to Egypt; stay in the land of which I will tell you. Live temporarily as a resident in this land and I will be with you and will bless and favor you, for I will give all these lands to you and to your descendants, and I will establish and carry out the oath which I swore to Abraham your father. I will make your descendants multiply as the stars of the heavens, and will give to your descendants all these lands; and by your descendants shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because Abraham listened to and obeyed My voice and consistently kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws, so Isaac stayed in Gerar.” Genesis 26:1-6

You are not alone seeking a better place, you are not the first who will do that and you will never be the last; human beings are constantly migrating every day, many have asked themselves where to go, many have asked others, many are asking God to relocate them everyday and everywhere throughout the world. Moving and the desire to move is not new before God, is not new to our generation and will continue till Christ comes; there are many reasons to seek a move or ask for a relocation; there are many genuine reasons to relocate and there many genuine reasons to remain where you are. Reasons such as better job offers, lack of good paying jobs or underemployment where you are, consistent unemployment, high crime, crowth neighborhood, endless challenges in jobs and living, the high cost of living, seeking greener pasture, marriage, health, famine, and many more. It is certain that there will always be cogent reasons but the best of all the reasons will definitely come when God is involved and when He directs the way, makes the path, and goes before you. You will not make a mistake following God, obeying Him, trusting Him, waiting and believing in Him. Isaac gave reasons for his desire to move as famine which was cogent and true to his understanding, but in the eyes of God, it was wrong for him to relocate because God had a better plan for him where he was despite the famine that was there.

In seeking to relocate for any reason, there are many factors to consider, but the most important of all the factors is seeking God, maintaining and improving your relationship with God, obeying Him and following His instructions. God asked Isaac not to move and he obeyed despite what was very obvious in the place and God rewarded his obedience. “Then Isaac planted seed in that land as a farmer and reaped in the same year a hundred times as much as he had planted and the Lord blessed and favored him. And the man Isaac became great and gained more and more until he became very wealthy and extremely distinguished; he owned flocks and herds and a great household with a number of servants, and the Philistines envied him.” Genesis 26:12-14. Did you know that your obedience to God and his words are more important than your desires? Can you imagine what would have happened if Isaac did follow his desires and ignored God’s instructions? The problem with many Christians today is that we are mostly driven by our desires rather than the word of God and believe those desires are the will of God only to regret thereafter and put ourselves in more trouble than we were before. We are driven by the desire to satisfy our heart desires based on our research and knowledge and what people say and us that as a measure of God speaking and directing us. Did you remember that Jacob relocated to Egypt because of hunger, and the consequence was four hundred and thirty years of slavery, humiliation, torture, and anger to his children and the unborn generations? Did you remember that contrary to God’s plan Abraham and Sarah, Sarah offered her maid to Abraham because of barrenness which resulted in the birth of Ismael and trouble in their family? When seeking to relocate, let God speak, let Him lead, let Him open the door, and let Him make the path. For prayer Click here
