THAT LITTLE CUP OF WATER

“After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, I thirst. Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth. So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, it is finished. And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.” John 19:28-30

On the cross, when Jesus was thirsty for water, He cried out ‘I thirst’, the people standing by knew it was water He needed, they knew it was water they should offer, but they decided to offer Him something different, something bitter, something quite contrary to His desire, and something that spoil His taste. What have you offered someone of recent with or without that person demanding? What do you know someone around you needs? That cup of water will not only satisfy someone’s thirst, it can definitely change your life for the best forever if offered for the right purpose.

The last demand by Christ Jesus for Himself on the cross was to satisfy a thirst, but men thought otherwise and did what was contrary and offered Him something bitter instead. A cup of water sincerely given by you might be all you need to make a difference, leave a lasting impression where you are, stamp the love of God in the hearts of men, and encourage someone to remain faithful, patient, and to keep pursuing the next level of God’s call and will upon their lives. Patience might be all they need for the will and plans to be fulfilled and your cup of water may keep that person lovingly and faithfully waiting a little longer in the presence of God.

Yes you definitely have a cup of water in your home, you have seen one around you, and have used even more today. It might be insignificant in your sight, but it is very valuable and carries a great reward in the sights of God when given in love to satisfy a purpose, satisfy a dream, fulfill a desire, and meet a demand. God is waiting and watching not only to see you offer a cup of water to someone, but to reward you in doing just that.

Yes, it is only a cup of water given to someone with a purpose that is far more valuable and far reaching than the water and the cup that holds it together. Though the quantity might not seem so important to you, or the cup has any value to you, and the occasion might not be very valuable or memorable to you, but in God’s diligent evaluation, though the cup may be of no value to you or anyone else, the water in it is definitely priceless, very significant and will never be in vain because of the intent.

Because God places a high value to the purpose that little cup of water from your hands had helped to fulfill, He handsomely rewards the action and the actor. He rewards the hearts and the hands that enable such to happen. Though you may call them insignificant, but do not ignore those little things in you, those little things around you, they carry a great reward; do not ignore the grace of God in you to do good at any moment, they also carry a great reward; do not ignore that opportunity to reach out to someone else in any way that will change a life, leave a lasting impression of God’s favor and godliness, that seeks to change a situation, change an evil thought and action, they carry a great reward from God our Father in heaven.

“Anyone who receives you receives me, and anyone who receives me receives the Father who sent me. If you receive a prophet as one who speaks for God, you will be given the same reward as a prophet. And if you receive righteous people because of their righteousness, you will be given a reward like theirs. And if you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded.” Matthew 10:40-42

God wants to bless you beyond what you are and what you have, not with cups of water in return but with things more valuable as that water was valuable to that person; He wants to satisfy your needs, meet your demands and above that, keep you in His comfort. For prayers, Click here
