“Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, He was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, if you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread. Jesus answered, it is written, Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. If you are the Son of God, he said, throw yourself down. For it is written, He will command His angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. Jesus answered him, it is also written, do not put the Lord your God to the test. Again the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor, All this I will give you, he said if you will bow down and worship me. Jesus said to him, away from me, Satan, for it is written, worship the Lord your God, and serve him only. Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.” Matthew 4:1-11

Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior did not just walk into the wilderness to meet the devil and be tempted or tested, He was led into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit of God immediately after the baptism by John the Baptist as He was coming out of the water. In the wilderness, He fasted for forty days and forty nights and I am quite sure He had a good time for personal prayers also. It was immediately after the days fasting and prayers that Satan showed up to tempt and also test Him. Satan tempted Christ Jesus for Who was – the Son of God; tempted Him because He was hungry and needed food; tempted and tested Him for what God had given to Him already, - all things in the world; and tested Him in His obedience to God and faithfulness to His words. You cannot imagine what will come after fasting, what will come after dedication, what will come after prayers, what will come after faithfulness, and what will come after obedience to the words of God and after acceptance of His will for your life. Satan will throw everything at you, he will try everything with you, and he will do all to destroy your faithfulness, your faith in God and His words, and he will do everything to bring you to shame in accepting and following God’s will for your life in every situation. He did that to Christ and did not succeed.

Satan’s desire is to change you by challenging you and everything about and around you; all his desire is to challenge your obedience to Christ with failures, shame, and humiliations; he wants to make you a failure even in the things you know very well, trained, qualified, and destined by God to do and succeed; he wants to challenge your faithfulness to God’ words with difficulties, rejection, loneliness, and pains, and he wants to stop you from being who, and what God wants you to be in this life. He will use everything he has and everything given to him by his agents to come against you; he will use what you know and what you do not know; he will use what you can and cannot imagine, and he will use what you have been promised by God and men; he will use what you need but truly lack, and he will use what you do not been able to have despite your efforts, years, resources spent, and dedicated labor; but as he did not succeed in the life and case of Jesus Christ, he will not succeed in yours. As he failed to accomplish his plans and desires in the life of Jesus Christ our Lord, He will not succeed in yours.

Jesus Christ was led by the Holy of God into the wilderness and that same Spirit that led him did not depart from Him, did not leave Him in the wilderness, and did not fail Him when tempted. The same Spirit helped Him, sustained Him, and took care of Him. The same Spirit of the Lord Jesus Christ, the same Spirit of salvation, the same Spirit of faithfulness, the same Spirit of your obedience that had led you to this place all these days is still leading you, He will keep you, He will protect you, He will sustain you, He will take care of you and He will bring you to the place that God had destined for you as He did with Jesus Christ.
