You are not alone when you cry, others had done the same in their times of need and more will do the same sooner or later. Cries do not better or bad before God, it does not make us acceptable or rejected and it does not holier than we are already. Did you know that Elijah, that great prophet of the Almighty God who in his days did prayed holy fire down, did successfully challenged a sitting dictator and his wife who was a notorious serial killer in the land fearlessly and successfully; who successfully and openly challenged four hundred prophets of Baal; who single-handedly brought great liberating prosperity and miracle to the people of his nation; who was feared and respected by all also did cry despite the greatness of his anointing and the great exploits he did in the name of our Lord? Weather answered or delayed, the Bible is filled with examples of times when people of God cried their hearts out to their Father in heaven. Today we will look into the cries of Elijah and what God did thereafter.

“Sometime later the woman’s son became sick. He grew worse and worse, and finally, he died. Then she said to Elijah, O man of God, what have you done to me? Have you come here to point out my sins and kill my son? But Elijah replied, Give me your son. And he took the child’s body from her arms, carried him up the stairs to the room where he was staying, and laid the body on his bed. Then Elijah cried out to the Lord, O Lord my God, why have you brought tragedy to this widow who has opened her home to me, causing her son to die? And he stretched himself out over the child three times and cried out to the Lord, O Lord my God, please let this child’s life return to him. The Lord heard Elijah’s prayer, and the life of the child returned, and he revived. Then Elijah brought him down from the upper room and gave him to his mother, look he said, your son is alive. Then the woman told Elijah, now I know for sure that you are a man of God, and that the Lord truly speaks through you.” 1 kings 17:17-24

Through the act of a supernatural miracle Elijah enabled this woman and her son to have enough food even in her lack and a period of drought, and the woman paid back by housing Elijah with the family and suddenly something ugly happen, the only son, the hope, the best companion and the closest person to the widow died. The result of the death was to keep the woman in sorrow after losing her husband; to destroy her hope, her feelings, her heart and subsequently her own life; but fortunately Elijah was with the family and the woman not wanting to take chances again in her life immediately reported the matter to Elijah. There are times you will want to keep your pains and grieves to yourself and there are times you will need to share them with others. There are times you will have to cry alone and there are times others will have to join you in the cry. This woman had mourned her husband alone and was not ready to mourn her son and hope. She knew right away she will need someone who will not only cry with her but who can comfort her and give her directions you will have to call other in your grieve and in your pains.

Did you know in your times of cry you do not need sympathizers around you but someone who will encourage you positively while sincerely feeling your pains with you; someone who will stand in the gap between your pains and your life; someone who will put a wage to stop the escalation of your grieves and pains; someone who will tell you of the hope in Christ Jesus with passion despite what is being seen and known of you; someone who will go with you with the hope and assurance that is in the words of God’s promises; someone who will know your pains, feel your sadness, failure and accept your weaknesses without mocking you for the things they have seen and known of you. Elijah was all this to the Zarephath woman who had opened her heart and her family to him and above all, Elijah was a dedicated man of God. The result of Elijah crying with her was comforting beyond her cries; it was the restoration of hope, trust, confidence and a decision to remain and to worship the Almighty God.
