Hezekiah was truly sick, he truly needed healing, needed news that will comfort him, news that will give him hope, and news that will assure him of his expected future. But when he got something different, Hezekiah did not just give up hope because of that. In his sickness and pains, he had a visit from Prophet Isaiah. He expected a prayer from him, good news, and a comforting word from God that will give him peace, but rather, he heard something that made him sad and bitter from Prophet Isaiah, he heard the news he never wanted and became bitter thereafter, but Hezekiah took it kindly and turn to God for prayer after losing hope in the word from the prophet. Hezekiah prayed to the Almighty God, took his case, his bitterness, and pains to God. H told God what He had done, and he told God his past testimonies and good deeds.

“In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, this is what the Lord says; put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover. Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord saying, remember, Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes. And Hezekiah wept bitterly.” 2 Kings 20:1-3

Hezekiah was told that he will not recover from the sickness, will not survive, and he is going to die. He was told to prepared his mind, his house, and do what was necessary to transfer the power of his kingship. He was assured that the word was from the Lord. Hezekiah trusted the word of the Lord, trusted the source, and trusted the prophet Isaiah, but he became bitter and wept thereafter, and took what he heard to the same Lord who sent the prophet. He cried to the same Lord and presented his case before the Lord. Hezekiah was not bitter with the prophet neither did he ask the prophet to pray for him or urge God to change His mind; he was not bitter because of his sickness, and he was not bitter with members of his household. He was bitter because he expected something different, he expected better news, not bitter news; but he was happy that he also knew the living God and can go to him, call on Him and speak to Him also.

Now, instead of taking heart and accepting the word of God from the prophet, in total humility, Hezekiah turned to the same Lord who sent the prophet Isaiah, he opened up his heart before Him, he wept before Him instead of weeping before Isaiah the prophet. With confidence, he told the Lord of his past deeds. In his prayers to the Lord even in his sickness and pains, Hezekiah reminded the Lord of his good deeds and asked Him to remember him; he told the Lord to remember his past obedience to His precepts, and to His commandments; he told the Lord to remember that he gave himself personally and completely to serve Him wholeheartedly and he reminded the Lord of how he had done what was right according to the demands of His word in His eyes and sight during the period of his kingship and his life. He cried out and cried aloud in his prayers before the Lord and his prayer changed the mind of God and gave him instant turnaround in the same situation.

What have you heard concerning your life, where you are now, what you are doing now, your marriage, your finances, and concerning your future? What have you seen and experienced all these days and years? There is nothing that is too hard for God to do when we pray; when we truly seek His face, when we commit ourselves to follow, obey, and comply with His demands and commandments. Even when hope is lost, please pray, God will still hear your prayer; even when all doors of reinstatement, reconciliation, or reconsideration are closed against you, please pray, God will still hear prayer; even when everyone you know, the ones you have helped before and truly loves forget and forsake you, please pray, God will still hear your prayers; when everyone you have confidence in deserts you, pray, God will still hear prayer; even when you are told to keep quiet and quit, please pray.
