EIGHT WEAPONS OF DAVID AGAINST GOLIATH

Did you know God had equipped you for every battle, scheduled you to have the victory, empowered you through grace, mercy, and forgiveness to remain alive, active, and stand up till your victory is announced, celebrated and His name glorified? You will not fail in this battle and you will not drop the mantle of His grace and power, and nothing will change the plans of God for your life. The children of Israel were told to stand till in time of adversity and fear and uncertainty – “As Pharaoh approached, the people of Israel looked up and panicked when they saw the Egyptians overtaking them. They cried out to the Lord, and they said to Moses, why did you bring us out here to die in the wilderness? Weren’t there enough graves for us in Egypt? What have you done to us? Why did you make us leave Egypt? Didn’t we tell you this would happen while we were still in Egypt? We said, leave us alone, let us be slaves to the Egyptians. It’s better to be a slave in Egypt than a corpse in the wilderness. But Moses told the people, don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.” Exodus 14:10-14.

These were the eight weapons of David in the battle against Goliath. (1) Anointed by Samuel for something big – before he meets Goliath in battle, he had been anointed. (2) Confidence in God and in His word – before he meets Goliath in battle, David had confidence in God, in His promises, in His defense, in His ability, and in His protection. His confidence was not shaken by what Goliath was in the physical, by Goliath’s little, by what he was having and holding, and by his guards – armed bearer. (3) Calmness, physically and spiritually - before he went into the battle, he had calm in his spirit, in his heart, and in his reasoning. (4) Faith – before he started the fight against Goliath, David had the kind of faith that enables victory even in the presence of all kinds of uncertainties and he expressed his faith to King Saul, his brothers, and others. (5) Past testimony – David had tons of past testimonies to tell, before he encountered Goliath, he told King Saul and others about the great testimonies of God in his life, what God did and had done in and for his life in several occasions. Testimonies are powerful. (6) Five stones – before he started the fight, unaware to Goliath and others, David kept five stones from the valley in his bag, enough to take hin through the battle, enough to bring down his enemy, enough to support his faith, and enough to give him a winning testimony, and he was very sure that if one stone fails, others will not fail. (6) A sling – to hold, support, increase the speed of the stone for the mission at hand, and (7) Praise – besides the ability to pray, David had the ability to praise God which he did even when he was still in the forest.

“He picked up five smooth stones from a stream and put them into his shepherd’s bag. Then, armed only with his shepherd’s staff and sling, he started across the valley to fight the Philistine. David replied to the Philistine, You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. Today the Lord will conquer you, and I will kill you and cut off your head. And then I will give the dead bodies of your men to the birds and wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. And everyone assembled here will know that the Lord rescues his people, but not with sword and spear. This is the Lord’s, and He will give you to us.” 1 Samuel 17:40, 45-47

What are your weapons? In what are your confidence? “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled. 2 Corinthians 10:3-6.
