ONE PROMISE TO A WOMAN CHANGED ME FOREVER

It was just one promise, not two and never three, just one promise to a woman girl called Mary that changed my life and everything about me forever. That same promise changed the world and made it a place of hope and a place we can all share the joy intended for humanity by the Almighty God through the birth of Jesus Christ our Lord, our redeemer, and our Savior. It is amazing to know what God can do, and what He will do with the acceptance of His divine promises by just one person. It is amazing to know what God will do with us when we decide to walk in obedience, humility and in subjection to His principles despite the pains and the problems it will bring along in our lives.

Mary did not just accept the promise because there were no envisaged problems attached, she knew she was not yet officially married to Joseph before this time and that accepting the promise will raise many questions that may put her proposed husband off and threaten her joy of being married. But despite what she knew will come thereafter, she accepted the promise, knowing that God will be with her through whatever may come her way. She was able to overcome her known fear and her assumed forthcoming problem by putting her trust absolutely in the hands of the God who gave her the promise in the first place. This was the promise:

“To a girl never having been married and a virgin engaged to be married to a man whose name was Joseph, a descendant of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. And he came to her and said, Hail, O favored one [endued with grace] The Lord is with you Blessed (favored of God) are you before all other women. But when she saw him, she was greatly troubled and disturbed and confused at what he said and kept revolving in her mind what such a greeting might mean. And the angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found grace (free, spontaneous, absolute favor and loving-kindness) with God. And listen! You will become pregnant and will give birth to a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus. He will be great (eminent) and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to Him the throne of His forefather David, And He will reign over the house of Jacob throughout the ages; and of His reign there will be no end. And Mary said to the angel, How can this be, since I have no [intimacy with any man as a] husband? Then the angel said to her, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you [like a shining cloud]; and so the holy (pure, sinless) Thing (Offspring) which shall be born of you will be called the Son of God. And listen! Your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is now the sixth month with her who was called barren. For with God nothing is ever impossible and no word from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfillment. Then Mary said, Behold, I am the handmaiden of the Lord; let it be done to me according to what you have said. And the angel left her.” Luke 1:27-38

She was a girl living and trusting God with great expectations in everything. She was God fearing, obedient, willing and submissive to man and to God. She truly wanted honor her marriage and to see God magnified and glorified on earth either through her or anyone else. Her desires and actions were to tell people of the good news about God. Immediately after her encounter with the angel, she went straight to tell Elizabeth who was her family member the news. She was not waiting until the promise was manifested before sharing the news; she was willing to take the shame if any, while trusting God if that will glorify God. God did not disappoint her and will not disappoint you, as you believe in that same promise as Mary did.

It is amazing to know the influence of that one promise made to a woman changes the entire world. Much more than anything else Christmas brings God to the people and nations around, let us share the good news for God will not fail us.  Join in this expectation Click here
