DEAR LORD, I HAVE BEEN GIVEN A BAD NAME (5)

The God who does not forget His covenant will not forget you; the God who saved you by the power of His words and the working of the Holy Spirit in your heart will not forget you; the God who delivered you from the hands of Satan and from the powers of sin by the blood of Jesus Christ on the Cross at Calvary will not forget you; the God who kept you and is still keeping you alive to see this day will keep you until you see all His promises to you fulfilled; the God who alone is powerful in all things in all seasons is still as powerful as He had ever been to turn your life around for the best irrespective of where you are and what you have been doing; the God who is forever good is still good as He ever been to do what He had planned, designed, and destined and nothing will in any way and forever be able to stop Him. You have to know that through salvation, you are in a living covenant with the Almighty God through Christ Jesus our Lord and you will not end up a failure in this very life that you have and have witnessed. You will witness God’s blessings.

Isaac was born and chosen by God even before he was conceived to inherit all the blessings of the covenant God had with Abraham. Jacob was also born to inherit the blessings that Isaac in his days inherit from Abraham, but there was something much more for Jacob than it was for Isaac in the covenant, out of the two sons of Isaac, Jacob was chosen to fulfill the multiplication of the promise and the blessings that were in the covenant that God made with Abraham, and for that to be fully implemented, God had to do something very significant and specific with Jacob.

“So Jacob was left alone, and a Man came and wrestled with him until daybreak. When the Man saw that He had not prevailed against Jacob, He touched his hip joint; and Jacob’s hip was dislocated as he wrestled with Him. Then He said, Let Me go, for day is breaking. But Jacob said, I will not let You go unless You declare a blessing on me. So He asked him, what is your name? And he said, Jacob. And He said, your name shall no longer be Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men and have prevailed. Then Jacob asked Him, please tell me Your name. But He said, why is it that you ask My name? And He declared a blessing of the covenant promises on Jacob there. So Jacob named the place Peniel, the face of God, saying, for I have seen God face to face, yet my life has not been snatched away.” Genesis 32:24-30

It is good to note that Jacob did not ask for a change of name, he only asked to be blessed and the blessing was pronounced on him. What are you asking God to do for you? Jacob believed that the Man who fought with him can also bless him and he asked. The next thing to learn is that even though Jacob was born to inherit the blessings of the covenant, he did not just take it and run, he had to struggle for it, fight for it, believe in it, expect it and never gave up despite all that went through his life, and God never forgot His promises to Abraham that his descendants will inherit the blessings of the covenant.

“Then God in a visible manifestation appeared to Jacob again when he came out of Paddan-Aram and declared a blessing on him. Again God said to him, your name is Jacob; you shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name. So he was called Israel. And God said to him, I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall come from you, and kings shall be born of your loins. The land which I gave Abraham and Isaac I will give to you, and to your descendants after you, I will give the land. Then God ascended from Jacob in the place where He had spoken with him.” Genesis 35:9-13. God changed Jacob's name to Israel though He could have still confirmed his blessings and inheritance of the covenant with his former name but God wanted it otherwise. Do not let anything frighten you, God had not forgotten you, His plans for your life are still intact, the covenant you have with Him through Christ is everlasting, it has not changed and nothing had been taken from it. Your past had been forgiven through Christ on the day of your salvation and the consequences taken away forever. Prayer Request Click here
