THE SIGN OF YOUR COVENANT (1)

Every covenant that God had made with men is followed with a significant sign or mark for the person to remember should there a time and moments of doubt or uncertainty. Our God is always leading us forward and never leaving us behind even in times of doubts, discouragement, fear, pains, disappointment, and sorrows; God is always there and the sign of the covenant He made is also there to remind us of the promise of His faithfulness to help us meet all the conditions and the demands for the covenant to be fulfilled. His covenant represents His oath in the promise and His willingness to do all that is required for those who believe and follow Him to see the promise fulfilled and their lives changed by reason for the convincing power in the covenant.

God gave Abraham a promise of blessings and increase in Genesis 12:1-3 “Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee. And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great, and thou shalt be a blessing. And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” Abraham in his heart believed God, believed and desired the promises, and acted as commanded, and as time and days and years went by, Abraham stated having doubts and fears in his heart, but he never in any way stop believing, perusing and doing all that was required of him by God while still desiring to see and have the fulfillment of all the promises in his life.

Abraham had fears that he and Sarah were getting aged by the day and the possibility of having a child after being promised he will become a great nation is fast eroding them due to what he knew and had seen in their lives and this was affecting his self-confidence. As he contemplated his fears, having his expectation fixed on the promises, he had a chance to communicate with God in a vision where he expressed his fears directly to God, and God gave him a sign thereafter.

“After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram; I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward. And Abram said, Lord God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus? And Abram said, behold, to me thou hast given no seed and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir. And behold, the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, this shall not be thine heir, but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir. And He brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them, and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be. And he believed in the Lord and He counted it to him for righteousness. And he said unto him, I am the Lord that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it. And he said, Lord God, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it? And He said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon. And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another, but the birds divided he not. And when the fowls came down upon the carcasses, Abram drove them away. And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram, and lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him. And He said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs and shall serve them; they shall afflict them four hundred years. And that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge, afterward shall they come out with great substance. Thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age. In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates.” Genesis 15:1-18. For His promise of making Abraham a great nation, God asked him to look at the sky and count the stars, that was the sign of the covenant that He will fulfill His promise. For prayers, Click here
