THE DREAM OF JACOB

Post date: Apr 23, 2015 3:56:28 AM

When Esau intended killing Jacob after the birthright swab and the blessings he received, Jacob received a parental advice to flee to the house of his mother’s brother Laban; to marry one of his daughters, not any of the Canaanite women, and to begin seeing the pronounced blessing; while on his way to the Paddanaran, he was confused on what to expect living away from his parents for the very first time; all he needed was an assurance from God, a direction on what to do, peace in his heart and clarity of purpose, and God gave him a dream to confirm His presence. The God we serve knows when we need a word, and not fail in giving you one; He knows when we a dream and will not fail in giving us one; He knows when we need a miracle and will not fail to give us one; He knows when we need peace of mind and health and will not fail in giving us.

Those where the things that Jacob needed in his desperate and confused moment in life and God was there to meet his needs. I pray that the same God who ministered to Jacob that faithful day in dreams will also minister to you today; giving you the direction and the dream you need; the assurance and the confirmation you need; giving the vision and the peace of mind you deserve as you face the task of today and the ones that had been lingering with you for too long causing untold troubles, confusions and uncertainties.

Whatever the Lord says in His words to you, that He will do; whatever He shows you in dreams, that He will do; whatever He tell you, that He will fulfill. God will never show you anything in your dreams that will contradict His words and plans irrespective of what you say, how great and powerful that dream may be. God will not promise you what He will not do even when what He said is impossible for you to do. In following God, what He requires from us to do is to believe, to be obedient, and to follow Him faithfully. He will never lead you to failure, will not abandon you, and will keep quiet on you because you miss your targets for yourself.

This is the confirming and the comforting dream of Jacob that gave him all the assurances he needed as he was fleeing from Esau his brother. That single dream gave him the assurance of long life, the assurance of children, the assurance of victory over adversities, and above all, the assurance of God's continuous presence with him: “And Jacob left Beersheba and went toward Haran. And he came to a certain place and stayed there overnight, because the sun was set. Taking one of the stones of the place, he put it under his head and lay down there to sleep. And he dreamed that there was a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. And behold, the Lord stood over and beside him and said, I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father forefather and the God of Isaac; I will give to you and to your descendants the land on which you are lying. And your offspring shall be as countless as the dust or sand of the ground, and you shall spread abroad to the west and the east and the north and the south; and by you and your Offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed and bless themselves. And behold, I am with you and will keep watch over you with care, take notice of you wherever you may go, and I will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done all of which I have told you. And Jacob awoke from his sleep and he said, surely the Lord is in this place and I did not know it. He was afraid and said, How to be feared and reverenced is this place. This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gateway to heaven. And Jacob rose early in the morning and took the stone he had put under his head, and he set it up for a pillar, a monument to the vision in his dream, and he poured oil on its top in dedication. And he named that place Bethel, the house of God; but the name of that city was Luz at first. Then Jacob made a vow, saying, If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go and will give me food to eat and clothing to wear, So that I may come again to my father’s house in peace, then the Lord shall be my God; And this stone which I have set up as a pillar shall be God’s house, a sacred place to me, and of all the increase of possessions that You give me I will give the tenth to You.” Genesis 28:10-22.
