“Then Joseph said, I will explain the dream to you, this is its interpretation. The three branches stand for three days. Before the end of three days, the king will free you, lift up your head and he will allow you to return to your work. You will serve the king his wine just as you did before, give the cup into the hand of Pharaoh according to your former custom when you were his cupbearer. But when you are free, it goes well for you, remember me. Be kind, loyal to me, and tell the king about me, recall me to the king so I can get out of this prison house. I was taken by force, stolen, snatched from the land of the Hebrews, and I have done nothing here to deserve being put in prison, this pit dungeon.” Genesis 41:12-15

After Joseph had interpreted the cupbearer dream, and it pleased him, Joseph followed up with a statement that touches on his personal desire after years in prison, his freedom from oppression and an unconditional release from prison. When Joseph told the Cupbearer to tell the king about him, what Joseph was thinking and asking for was quite different from what God had intended for him, quite different from what God was planning and quite higher than what he could ever imagine despite having had two dreams concerning his future. Joseph did not know God will give Pharaoh a dream, he did not know he will be called upon to interpret Pharaoh’s dream, and he did not know he would stand before Pharaoh under God’s directive and God’s plan to give him advice concerning the nation. Joseph did not ask the cupbearer to discuss a job offer or did he ask the cupbearer to discuss a position after the release, all he requested to be discussed was his release from prison.

Unknown to Joseph was the fact that God was in everything he had go through, everything he had experienced and everywhere he had been taken to even the prison and the nation he found himself. Before God gave Joseph those two dreams, God had prepared the way, before his brothers hated and sold him, God had prepared his future, even before he went to prison, God had concluded His plans and was implementing them. Did you know God is with you and He knows all about you before and now and in the future? Did you know God knows about your previous, your present and your future situations? There is nothing that God does not know about you and there is nothing that will prevent His plans for your life from coming to pass. In this your current situation and location, hold your peace, God is with you and He will make a way, He will speak for you and He will confirm His plans for you.

When God wants to fulfill His plans, He allows unusual things to happen, He allows events to come up and He allows men to witness them so they can give Him the praise and the honor He rightly deserved. The dreams of Joseph, the prison he was, the location he found himself, the dream of the cupbearer and the dreams of Pharaoh were not a coincidence, God was made them happen to fulfill His plans and purpose in the life of Joseph and for the children of Israel.  “Then the chief officer who served wine to the king, the cupbearer to Pharaoh said to him, now I remember something I promised to do, but I forgot about it. There was a time when you were angry with the baker and me, and you put us in prison in the house of the chief butcher. In prison, we each had a dream on the same night, and each dream had a different meaning. A young Hebrew man, a servant of the chief butcher, was in the prison with us. When we told him our dreams, he explained their meanings to us. He told each man the meaning of his dream and things happened exactly as he said they would, I was given back my old position, and the baker was hanged. So the king called for Joseph. The guards quickly brought him out of the prison and he shaved, put on clean clothes, and went before the king. The king said to Joseph, I have had a dream, but no one can explain its meaning to or interpret it for me. I have heard that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.” Genesis 41:9-15.
