THE SIGN OF YOUR COVENANT (4)

Covenants are powerful and they are real. We know that God’s words cannot be broken, His promises cannot fail and His ways are very perfect, but when we doubt what God says in His words and promises, God takes us further to ensure we are not misled by the fears that doubt creates, He tells us that His word and His promises are covenants that cannot be broken no matter what may stand on the way be it physical or spiritual. Things that do not exist, things that we do not know or understand, or things that are in existence, all combined together cannot in any way or by any means stop His covenants in our lives. Even when things don’t work in our lives according to our understanding and experiences, God’s covenant will open the door and make those things to begin working in our lives again. It was God’s covenant with Abraham that open the womb of Sarah to conceive and enable them to have the son of promise – Isaac.

There is no covenant as powerful, true, and alleviating as the covenant of God. God alone makes His covenant; He alone has the power to establish it, and He alone invites us to take part in and to benefit in the covenant. The establishment of the covenant is in His power and are all designed to fulfill His plans and there is nothing that we can do but to believe and follow. In His plans and purpose for Noah, it was not enough for Noah to only survive the flood with his family and the animals with him. He had better plans and He said to Noah thereafter; “Now be fruitful and multiply, and repopulate the earth.” Then God told Noah and his sons, “I hereby confirm my covenant with you and your descendants, and with all the animals that were on the boat with you, the birds, the livestock, and all the wild animals, every living creature on earth. Yes, I am confirming my covenant with you. Never again will floodwaters kill all living creatures; never again will a flood destroy the earth.” Then God said, “I am giving you a sign of my covenant with you and with all living creatures, for all generations to come. I have placed my rainbow in the clouds. It is the sign of my covenant with you and with all the earth. When I send clouds over the earth, the rainbow will appear in the clouds, and I will remember my covenant with you and with all living creatures. Never again will the floodwaters destroy all life. When I see the rainbow in the clouds, I will remember the eternal covenant between God and every living creature on earth.” Then God said to Noah, “Yes, this rainbow is the sign of the covenant I am confirming with all the creatures on earth.” Genesis 9:7-17

After telling Noah of the covenant He was establishing, God went further to assure Noah with a sign in heaven to help Noah remember the promise and His words. The sign of the covenant was the rainbow in the skies anytime there is rain on the earth. What God was telling Noah in the sign of the covenant was that when he sees the rainfall, he will remember the flood, the destructions by the flood and the experience of those days may make him think another destruction was coming, but the sign of the covenant will remind him that God will not destroy the world again by flood. When doubt comes, when we have uncertainties in our hearts and thoughts, we are to remember the sign of the covenant and be convinced that God will stand by His word. The sign of the covenant takes away doubts, and fears, when we have or see situations that are contrary to God’s words and promises in our lives; when we experience the unexpected and hear the unthinkable with our ears from the enemies and Satan. “Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere Him. For He spoke, and it came to be; He commanded, and it stood firm. The Lord foils the plans of the nations; He thwarts the purposes of the peoples. But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of His heart through all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord the people He chose for His inheritance.” There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord. The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the Lord.” Psalm 33:8-12; Proverb 21:30-31. For prayers, Click here
