“I will make you fishers of men.” That was the word and the promise of Jesus Christ to Peter and his brother Andrew that changed their life and their profession. Peter and Andrew knew the word of God but never knew God will choose them to preach the gospel until that day that Jesus Christ meets them on the boat with their parents. Until this time, Peter and Andrew had taken after their father’s business as fishermen and was believing to make a living in fishing and even exceed the marks of their father. Unknown to Peter and Andrew was the fact that God had a better destiny for them than taking over their fathers business; God a better profession for them than remaining or continuing as fishermen, and God had a better place for them in history and in His kingdom for them than what they knew and believed concerning themselves.

Christ Jesus did not just stop at Peter and Andrew, He saw John and James with their father mending their nets either to begin or after fishing and gave them an invitation to follow Him and they did. In the case of Peter and Andrew, Christ's demand and promise were for the two brothers and the left their net and place by the Sea of Galilee and followed Him. In the case of John and James, the call was to follow Him without a promise and they left their father and went with Him where He was going. Christ Jesus did not call them because they were disappointed or not satisfied with their businesses or with their parents. He called them because he had a better destiny and a better place for them in life. He called them because He wanted to take them to the place prepared by His Father for them before they were born; He called them because He knew they will never get that prepared place without following Him and doing what He demanded them to do, and they were not disappointed by Christ Jesus for accepting to abandon what they were doing, and what they believed they were good at to follow Him.

“From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. Then He said to them, follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men. They immediately left their nets and followed Him. Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father mending their nets. He called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.” Matthew 4:17-22

Irrespective of your profession, the situation, location and any issue in your life, there is a word of God for you, there is a call of God for you, there is a promise of God for you, and there is a place prepared for you if you will follow Christ Jesus sincerely with all humility and trust as Peter, Andrew, John, and James did. These four men were not disappointed by their actions and it is very certain also that you will not be disappointed by following Christ Jesus, obeying His words, accepting and willing to follow His commands, and believing and trusting in Him irrespective of the questions you may ask or people may ask you in doing so. Things might be tough thereafter, but in the end, you will not be disappointed because Christ will always be with you; things may be rough with you thereafter, but God will always make a way for you through them. You may be humiliated and sometimes put to shame by people, but God will surely deliver you from all of them and He will take you to the place He had promised, the place which had been prepared before you were called and the place of your destined destiny.

There are no short cuts to God’s glory and blessings in the life of any man and yours. No short cut to reach the place of the promise. Abraham was told to move out; Saul was told to obey; Peter and Andrew, John, and James were all told to stop what they were doing and follow and when they did, they were never disappointed. Christ Jesus has no plan to disappoint you, that is the desire of Satan, but he will surely fail in the name of Jesus Christ. For prayers, Click here
