“O LORD, DO NOT BE FAR FROM ME”

“My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Why are You so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning? O my God, I call out by day, but You do not answer; And by night, but I find no rest nor quiet. But You are holy, O You who are enthroned in the holy place where the praises of Israel are offered. In You our fathers trusted, relied on, and were confident; they trusted and You rescued them. They cried out to You and were delivered; they trusted in You and were not disappointed or ashamed. But I am treated as a worm insignificant and powerless and not a man; I am the scorn of men and despised by the people. All who see me laugh at me and mock me; they insultingly open their lips, they shake their head, saying, he trusted and committed himself to the Lord, let Him save him. Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him. Yet You are He who pulled me out of the womb; you made me trust when on my mother’s breasts. I was cast upon You from birth; from my mother’s womb You have been my God. Do not be far from me, for trouble is near; and there is no one to help. Many enemies like bulls have surrounded me; strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me. They open wide their mouths against me, like a ravening and a roaring lion. I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax; it is melted by anguish within me. My strength is dried up like a fragment of clay pottery; and my dry tongue clings to my jaws; and You have laid me in the dust of death. For a pack of dogs have surrounded me; a gang of evildoers has encircled me, they pierced my hands and my feet. I can count all my bones; they look, they stare at me. They divide my clothing among them and cast lots for my garment. But You, O Lord, do not be far from me; O You my help, come quickly to my assistance. Rescue my life from the sword, my only life from the paw of the dog and the executioner. Save me from the lion’s mouth; from the horns of the wild oxen You answer me.” Psalm 22:1-22

People may distance themselves from you because of your current or past situations in life, your often failures, ill luck, painful experiences, shameful occurrences, inability to make ends meet, disappointments, indebtedness, anguish, disability, lack of qualification or disqualification, the heavy cross of life you carry every day and everywhere, barrenness, childlessness, lack of spouse or anything else in life, but despite their distance, God is near you and will not follow the steps or words or actions of men against you. Irrespective of the array of evil standing to take you over or destroy you and everything around and about you, God will not leave you and will not permit them to succeed against you irrespective of the weapons and instruments of war. He is and will ever remain your God.

God was not far from David when King Saul hunted him down for destruction though he felt that way: God was not far from our Lord Jesus Christ when He cried on the cross for help because of the excruciating pain and weight of the sins of the world on Him though He felt that way; God was not far from Daniel when he was judged guilty and thrown into the den of lions though he felt that way; God was not far from Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego when they were thrown into the ferry burning furnace of King Nebuchadnezzar though they felt that way; God was not from Sarah, Hannah and Elizabeth though they felt that way; God was not far from Jabez and his parents though they felt that way; God was not far from Job when he was attacked by the devil though he felt that way and God is not far from you despite your feelings, the words of men to and against you and the shameful, disappointing situations that you are experiencing today.

To David, God ensured he was not killed by the lions; to Jesus Christ our Lord, God ensured He resurrected; to Daniel, God ensured the lions did not eat him; to Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, God ensured fire did not burn them; to Sarah, Hanna and Elizabeth, God ensured they conceived; to Jabez, God ensured his life was changed; to Job, God ensured He was restored beyond previous level, and to you, God will do the same.
