DEAR LORD, I HAVE WAITED TOO LONG (2)

God knows you are waiting and sees what you do as you wait on Him. Those who have waited on the Lord before know how painful the period had been when the results are either delayed or come out negative. Many have waited for too long and are still waiting, experiencing dangers, insults, and humiliations of all sorts of things from family, friends, colleagues, and even foes. Long waits are real and painful but in all our waiting, we should know that we are not waiting on men but on our God who alone can do and will do what men in all their wealth and powers cannot do for us. This is the assurance we have in waiting on our God. “God is our refuge and strength, a tested help in times of trouble. And so we need not fear even if the world blows up and the mountains crumble into the sea. Let the oceans roar and foam, let the mountains tremble. There is a river of joy flowing through the city of our God—the sacred home of God above all gods. God Himself is living in that city; therefore it stands unmoved despite the turmoil everywhere. He will not delay His help. The nations rant and rave in anger, but when God speaks, the earth melts in submission and kingdoms totter into ruin. The Commander of the armies of heaven is here among us. He, the God of Jacob, has come to rescue us.” Psalm 46:1-7

There is the fear of the Lord, there is the fear of men, and there is the fear of the uncertainties in our lives, but the fear of the Lord is the best fear we will ever have when we experience delays and long waits on the things we hope for from Him. Fear always shows up when we are waiting on what God had promised; when we put our mind and feet on heavenly promises by faith; when the day of the fulfillment of God’s promises draw near, and when uncertainty confronts us, but even in all our fears, we have been assured in the scriptures of the goodness of God that the fear will bring us into the wisdom of God; it will draw us to Him in humility; it will keep us from falling into sin and evil traps seeking to destroy us; it will bring us to our knees in prayer for help, it will assure us of God’s presence and closeness, and it will give us peace to trust for a better outcome in our situations. Fear can be a helpful response to dangerous situations and it can be something that overwhelms us and takes our eyes, our minds, and our hearts away from hope in Christ Jesus our Lord. No matter our situation, Scripture shows us that a part of waiting upon God will involve avoiding being controlled by fear and worries. The best remedy to all of our fears is God Himself through our faith in Christ Jesus. “For the reverence and fear of God are basic to all wisdom.” Proverbs 9:10.

David said this when his waiting became too long and fear started rising in his heart. “Be merciful to me, my God, for my enemies are in hot pursuit; all day long they press their attack. My adversaries pursue me all day long; in their pride, many are attacking me. When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? All day long they twist my words; all their schemes are for my ruin. They conspire, they lurk, they watch my steps, hoping to take my life. Because of their wickedness do not let them escape; in your anger, God, bring the nations down. Record my misery; list my tears on your scroll are they not in your record? Then my enemies will turn back when I call for help. By this, I will know that God is for me. In God, whose word I praise, in the Lord, whose word I praise in God I trust and am not afraid. What can man do to me? I am under vows to you, my God; I will present my thank offerings to you.” Psalm 56:1-12

David thought his waiting on God was in vain but God showed up in the lion’s den for his sake. Your long wait does not mean God had forgotten, rejected, denied your request, or He will not be merciful to you. He cherishes your love and salvation above all things. In His mercy, He will help you; in His power, He will deliver you; in His love, He will show up in your case and He will not fail. He showed up Daniel in the lion’s den. For prayers, Click here
