In the heart of every living man or woman, irrespective of color, race, profession, location and status, there is an expectation; in every relationship, in every marriage, in every home, in every job, in every location, in every family and in every discussion, there is an expectation. Our heart expectations are sometimes hidden and sometimes open for everyone to see and try to meet them but when the manifestation of such expectations is unduly delayed for any reason we instantly become concerned by what we are going through, frustrated by what the delay will result along with time, disturbed by what others are thinking and saying about us behind and to our face, we become discouraged because of the adverse effect this will cause in our relations and profession, we become angry with ourselves, our children, colleagues, spouses, friends and everyone else around us and we become excessively worried in thoughts and actions. These actions often result in our having contrary issues in our relations.

Though expectations are good but we should also know that in every expectation, God is there to guide us and to show us the way. He desires we look unto Him in our expectation long before we start experiencing undue delays and become frustrated, discourage and ashamed. He expects us to know that expectations are human because they encourage us to work towards a reward and a result, they help us to time and watch ourselves in our relationships and professions and to bring ourselves under discipline and scrutiny. Expectations help keep hope alive and help us to always be active and remain positive in our respective life engagements. It is the expectations we have that encourages us to wake early and daily and attend to the need for that day; and all our actions, deeds of each day are towards fulfilling those expectations.

It is good to note that every one of our friends and foes has one or two expectations of us and it is good to note that The Almighty God, our Lord Jesus Christ and the angels of God in heaven also have expectations of us. Every parent have an expectation regarding their female and male children, have expectations concerning their profession, their marriage, their health, well-being and their future spouses; every wife and husband have an expectation for each other and every student and employer has an expectation, but when those expectations are delays something else begins to brew inside of us. Everyone who had ever lived on earth had experienced one delayed or the other in their expectation that had raised their concern over the reason for the delay and its eventual outcome and you are not alone in being concerned. Though we do often cry the delays are taking a toll on our health and relationships, we are assured in the scripture that the expectation of the righteous will be fulfilled and shall not be denied by the Lord. Delayed expectations do not prove that our Lord Jesus Christ hates us; it does not prove the word of God and our prayers are ineffective and it does not prove we are out of favor with our Lord.

Hannah had a good expectation of her marriage in terms of children, but her expectation was delayed and insults started piling up and she became frustrated, angry and worried, but she took her frustrations, anger, and worries to God in prayers with a vow. She prayed: “O Lord of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your servant and remember me and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a son, --- she testified later “My heart rejoices in the Lord. The Lord has made me strong. Now I have an answer for my enemies; I rejoice because you rescued me. No one is holy like the Lord. There is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God. Stop acting so proud and haughty. Don’t speak with such arrogance. For the Lord is a God who knows what you have done; he will judge your actions. The bow of the mighty is now broken, and those who stumbled are now strong. Those who were well fed are now starving, and those who were starving are now full. The childless woman now has seven children, and the woman with many children wastes away” 1Samuel 1:11; 2:1-5. For prayers Click here
