“BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD”

“Be still and know, recognize, and understand that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold, our refuge, and our high tower.” Psalm 46:10-11. What a word, what a demand, and what a command. God has spoken by His power, He will not withdraw His words, nothing will change it and nothing will stop it from being true, not even our fears, our present uncertainties of the day, the intimidations of the moments and the frightening things we have come to experience recently can change what God had said; not arrays of evil evidence raise against us, not even the presence of our enemies in their numbers, not even the things they know about us and say of us and hold against us can change what God had said. It is our responsibility to know, to act, and to those words, in every circumstance irrespective of the results we have received or will receive. It is God to know that God wants us to know, to recognize and to understand that He is our God; that He will be exalted no matter what in our lives and every battle that we will ever come to fight physically or spiritually.

Being still does not mean we do not know what to do or what next to do in our situations, but it means we have decided to follow what God says and depend on it to the very end knowing that He is our God and there is no one else like Him in all circumstance, in all places despite what we know see, and what experienced and what we do not know or see. There is no authority lie His, no power like His, no love like His, no faithfulness like His and no caring like His. Being still and know that He is God means what we know and may do or have done had not changed our situations, we keep failing despite doing what we know, we keep falling despite having strength; we keep missing our ways and our projection despite following the wisdom we have and we keep being victims to our enemies despite engaging them in battles.

King Saul knew what to do when he engaged the Philistines in battle; he received divine and sure instructions from God through Samuel; he was given a promise and true assurance of victory in that battle and He set out with all his armies to fight. But despite being the chosen King and anointed by God through Samuel, one thing was lacking in him, and that was the determination to continuously be in obedience to God in the presence of fear and intimidation and uncertainties due to the known activities of his known and unknown enemies. He told Samuel: “Now Saul waited seven days, according to the appointed time which Samuel had set, but Samuel had not come to Gilgal, and the people were scattering away from Saul. So Saul said, bring me the burnt offering and the peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering which he was forbidden to do. As soon as he finished offering the burnt offering, Samuel finally came; Saul went out to meet and to welcome him. But Samuel said, what have you done? Saul said, since I saw that the people were scattering away from me, and that you did not come within the appointed time, and that the Philistines were assembling at Michmash, therefore, I said, now the Philistines will come down against me at Gilgal, and I have not asked for the Lord’s favor by making supplication to Him. So I forced myself to offer the burnt offering. Samuel said to Saul, you have acted foolishly; you have not kept the commandment of the Lord your God, which He commanded you, for if you had obeyed the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. But now your kingdom shall not endure. The Lord has sought out for Himself a man after His own heart, and the Lord has appointed him as leader and ruler over His people because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you” 1 Samuel 138-14. Remember, to obey God is far better than all other things you will ever do for God or to God. When your appointed time seemed delayed, do not fail to be obedience, be still and you will see the power of God; when the enemies seem to be having victory over you, be still and know that God is with you and will not fail.
